Historia
Anne of Green Gables is a 1908 novel by the Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The setting is the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, where the 11-year-old orphan girl Anne Shirley is sent to two middle-aged siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, after a childhood spent in strangers' homes and orphanages. The novel recounts Anne's joys and challenges in settling in to her new - and first real - home Green Gables, the country school, and the town.

A good book and good narration
Revisado: 05-30-20
I picked this most because I know the narrator and that this was one of my favorite books growing up. After listening to the book. I felt that story held up over time and that the performance of the narrator does a great job with a clean crisp delivery.

Historia
The newest immensely original undertaking from the historian who gave us the defining two-volume portrait of Hitler, Fateful Choices puts Ian Kershaw's analytical and storytelling gifts on dazzling display. From May 1940 to December 1941, the leaders of the world's six major powers made a series of related decisions that determined the final outcome of World War II and shaped the course of human destiny.

Thought provoking listening
Revisado: 05-10-20
A new audio book of Kershaw's 2007 book. 'Fateful Choices' shows it's age well and it still very worthwhile listen, and often challenges a lot of 'conventional' that is still present in popular culture today.
Unfortunately while the narrator is competent and his voice engaging enough so that I didn't fall asleep. His speaking speed was very slow in my opinion. I'd suggest listening to the book at 1.25 speed for greater enjoyment. As well there were several technical gaffes; where the narrator asked questions to the editor that made it into the recording.

A big disapointment
Revisado: 12-09-18
I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, the author fell back upon the poor story telling techniques that turned me off of his other works. Weather it was creating false suspense by not revealing plot irrelevant character background till later in the book, dumbing down normally perceptive characters so they don’t ask obvious but ‘story damaging’ questions or creating false conflict between characters because important character history plot points are not revealed just to create a crisis in the future. Not to mention a need for a larger suspension of disbelief than should be warranted in a modern fantasy hidden world story. The author should put greater trust in his own story telling abilities and respect his audience more.
As always Bronson Pinchot's voice work is excellent though a couple of times he uses the wrong voice for character. To me this is more of an editing issue than a voice acting mistake.

A much better example of a shared world.
Revisado: 10-22-17
In short; this is a great series of short stories that truly shows the strength of the MHI universe.
The stories in Monster Hunter Files are a mixture of fleshed out characters previously created by Mr. Corriea, complete new characters created by the authors for the MHI universe, and in one case a port in of an already existing character (who could have existed in the MHI universe very easily to begin with) into the world of MHI. Your mileage may vary from one story to the next, but all (accept John Ringo’s story) create characters and situation that at least feel like MHI stories.
Oliver Wyman’s voice acting is outstanding, as usual; perhaps too good. One story’s twist was ruined for me because I recognized the character’s voice and realized that something was up before the big reveal. Khistine Hvam does an excellent job as per usual as the voice of Jane Yellowrock, and I really hope that they use Bailey Carr as the voice of Monster Hunter Guardian.
Finally a big shout out to Larry Corriea for having the courage to let others play in his universe. I can hardly wait for more.

I was really surprised just how much I got out of the Great Course. Not only is it a really good survey course of Spanish History, but the Professor Salisbury covers a wide variety of material that, while was a part of Spanish History, impacts upon other parts of World as well.
Definitely worth the listen.

Historia
In his most ambitious work to date, Thomas L. Friedman shows that we have entered an age of dizzying acceleration - and explains how to live in it. Due to an exponential increase in computing power, climbers atop Mount Everest enjoy excellent cell phone service, and self-driving cars are taking to the roads. A parallel explosion of economic interdependency has created new riches as well as spiraling debt burdens.

It is as if Gen X didn't even exist
Revisado: 09-24-17
Written by a baby boomer who appears to have looked up from his own navel long enough to realise 'Hey my grandchildren aren't going to have things handed to them on a silver platter like I was. That's not fair.'
Friedman's ultimate point seems to be that the rate of change really started increase in 2007 with the introduction of the smart phone and social media. The fallout of which is a degree of uncertainty that means today's young people have to scramble to get a head with no real guarantees of success.
While the world that he describes certainly does exist today the main point that he completely misses is that this world has been in existence since the mid 80s with the rise of personal computers. This fact and it impact upon society, and how badly Friedman missed it was clear to me when he started to describe what young people now had to go through now to find work. As I was listening to this part, I thought to myself 'gee that sound like my work experience, and the work experience of a lot of my friends, since I graduated from university:in the early 1990s.
And it is things like this drove me insane with this book. Friedman's assumption that just because HE'S discovered these issues that they have only recently coming into existence. Sorry Tom but like many issues related to Boomers you weren't there first, and radial change has been the norm for decades not years. 2007 wasn't some mythical tipping point, but just another year of change in a long line of changes. Just ask anyone who came of age after 1990.
Oliver Wyman did his usual superb narration: unfortunately like in Grunge his presentation was in service of a text undeserving his talents.

At D-Day's end, the Canadians, who had landed on Juno Beach, were six miles inland - the deepest penetration achieved by Allied forces on this infamous day. But every soldier on this front line knew worse was yet to come. For in the darkness the Germans were massing, intent on throwing them back to sea. With dramatic intensity, Holding Juno re-creates the ensuing battle and ultimate Canadian triumph and includes fascinating first-person soldier accounts as well as photos and maps.

Book wrecked by narrator.
Revisado: 05-15-17
While Mr. Zuehika's material is top notched it is often made suspect by Mr. Munley's mispronunciation. Words like PIAT, RAM, Haida are all badly pronounce, he even mispronounced adjutant.
Even though I know these mistakes aren't Mr Zuehika's fault such basic mispronunciations can not help help but cause the listener to question the overall accuracy of the book.
The fault for this I lay squarely at the feet of the book's audio director, better care should have been taken to ensure words were properly pronounced.
Which is a real shame because Mr. Zuehika's 'just the facts' primary document prose is excellent. Especially for such a critical book which covers a period that has been given lip service by so many historians. If D+1 to D+7 was better covered outside of academia maybe such units as the 12th SS wouldn't be lionized the way the are today.

A great ending for a great series
Revisado: 04-30-17
A really great read that I enjoyed listening to from start to finish. Who would have thought that one of the best series I've ever read about the joys and hazards field work as a scientist would be so fantastical.
Ms. Reading does a fantastic job as the narrator bring the characters to live. She IS Lady Trent to my mind.
Highly recommend the series for any young people interested in biology or the social sciences. You be hard press to find a better real world role model.

Epic fantasy meets ashfault
Revisado: 11-27-16
This book is one of the best I've read it a long time. It's a modern tale with really good characters, an interesting plot and action/combat scenes.
But what I find most praise worthy is that at it heart its a story about good people helping other good people to stand up and say 'not on my watch' when the forces of darkness rise. In that way the book reminds me of Gemmell at his best, something that truly surprised me when I realized it half way through.
One last note: Pinchot was a perfect choice for narrator for this book, his different accents bringing the book truly to life for me.

Revisado: 11-27-16
After reading the Brotherhood of the Wheel I was looking forward to this book. Unfortunately it was a really bad misstep. To my thought its really just a poor John Constantine clone and far to dark for my taste.
It also requires a great deal of buy in the books mythological backbone without taking the time to explain the rules, something that I greatly dislike.
