Historia
Jada Pinkett Smith was living what many would view as a fairy-tale of Hollywood success. But appearances can be deceiving, and as she felt more and more separated from her sense of self, emotional turmoil took hold. Sparing no detail, Worthy chronicles her life.

Thank you for being so open and vulnerable!
Revisado: 10-31-23
I cannot say enough about this memoir. I loved spending every minute listening to Jada Pinkett Smith who opened herself up and told the truth! It’s intimate and encouraging to listeners. I felt like we were at the red table, or maybe the red couch. Jada’s journey to being her own hero is inspiring. Three cheers to you Jada. Keep doing you.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Historia
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 04-28-23
Like the book “The Red Tent” this is an opportunity to spend time getting to know the women of the Bible. Yes it’s fiction, but it opens up your imagination with wonderings about life at that time. I loved this book. And the narrator was perfect. I hope you enjoy this audiobook.

Historia
Four years before Nina Totenberg was hired at NPR, where she cemented her legacy as a prizewinning reporter, and nearly twenty-two years before Ruth Bader Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court, Nina called Ruth. A reporter for The National Observer, Nina was curious about Ruth’s legal brief, asking the Supreme Court to do something revolutionary: declare a law that discriminated “on the basis of sex” to be unconstitutional. That call launched a remarkable, nearly fifty-year friendship.

My favorite of all the Jane Austen novels

Austen's maturity is on display in this novel by comparison with Pride & Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. The writing is spectacular. The story heartwarming.

The narration ruins this story.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I was really looking forward to listening this book, but the narration ruined it for me. Each sentence trailed off and I could not hear the last word or two ... of each sentence. It was very frustrating.

Anne Lamott meets Elizabeth Gilbert in this inspirational, side-splittingly funny exploration of the power of living with love, forgiveness, and honesty. Glennon Melton became a sensation when her personal essays started going viral. Giving language to our universal (yet often secret) experiences, her hilarious and poignant observations were read by millions, shared among friends, discussed at water coolers, quoted in The New York Times, and have inspired a social movement.

Poignant!
Revisado: 06-02-13
If you could sum up Carry On, Warrior in three words, what would they be?
Read This Book!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Carry On, Warrior?
When Glennon writes a letter to her son about how she and her husband would deal with his coming out as gay ... if he ever did. The blog and letter was written when her son was 10 and probably not even sure what the future held. The blog Glennon writes speak to our hipocrasy about marriage, being Christian, loving all God's creatures no matter who they decide to love.
What does Glennon Melton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She dictates her own blog, and it feels like you are spending time with Glennon. It was a real treat.

Historia
Chez Panisse opened its doors in 1971. Founded by Alice Waters, the restaurant is rooted in her conviction that the best-tasting food is organic, locally grown, and harvested in ecologically sound ways by people who are taking care of the land for future generations. The quest for such ingredients has always determined the restaurant’s cuisine, and over the course of 40 years, Chez Panisse has helped create a community of local farmers and ranchers.

Local Food Movement Visionary ~ An Amazing Listen!
Revisado: 06-02-13
Where does 40 Years of Chez Panisse: The Power of Gathering rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top 5
What did you like best about this story?
I listened to this audiobook and it was amazing. If you like the style of reporting commonly used by NPR, you will love it too. Not only did Alice Waters narrate a good portion of the book, but scores of others chimed in with their perspective and recollections. Music was carefully chosen to accompany the various segments. And the icing on the cake, was that this is a topic near and dear to me ... local foods over agri-business production of food. Local farmers, butchers, foragers, wine makers and more. This was delightful.

I had to stop listening
Revisado: 12-22-10
One of the premises of this book from the start is the notion that the Bible is infallible. I don't buy into that premise. I had to stop listening and wish I could get my money back. I should have done more research on the author before I downloaded this audio.

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

Revisado: 08-04-10
Fabulous book. I read Liar's Poker way back when and after seeing Michael Lewis' interview with Jon Stewart, I downloaded the book immediately. I was not disappointed. Michael manages to get more information than seems possible and then weaves a great narrative.
Am I furious at the subject matter, yes. Did Michael do us all a great service writing the tale ... he sure did.
