Sweet story, well read
Revisado: 11-28-15
I listened to this on Audiobook courtesy of Caroline Morris the narrator after I mentioned how much I liked her reading of a Tessa Dare novel. I listen to quite a lot of historical romance and it was lovely to have a fresh, young sounding voice. She did a great job differentiating the different characters also.
The story itself was very enjoyable. Who doesn't love a case of mistaken identity romance. It was a novella so we don't get a great deal of depth but it was a fun read to while away a long road trip.
Gemma has been writing to James for eleven years and in those days it was tantamount to a declaration. What was a teenage crush with a very young girl has matured into something more. The only problem is that James asked his friend Jasper to give her the flick but Jasper kept writing, year after year.
This was a sweet story, with some warmish bits. I liked the premise and the story was easy and fun.

It is in regrettable circumstances that beautiful Judith Taverner and her brother Peregrine first meet Julian St John Audley. The man, they both agree, is an insufferably arrogant dandy. But unfortunately for them, he's also the Fifth Earl of Worth, a friend of the Regent and, their legal guardian.

The original Regency romance
Revisado: 01-13-15
A classic ward guardian romance with the enigmatic hero and traditional feisty heroine. There is a mystery to complicate matters but it is simple in itself. It is naturally a sweet romance with minimal kissing.

Enjoyable listen with great dialogue
Revisado: 06-15-14
I'm enjoying rediscovering Heyer in audiobook. The dialogue lends itself to this medium and with a good narrator can keep you smiling.
Some people complain that Waldo is almost too good. I like that in a hero. Especially when he can be a manly man at the same time. Cos Waldo is very much a man. He is 'top-of-the-trees' in most forms of sport he undertakes so he will be *cough* well built and physically fit with lots of stamina.
Ancilla is rather adorable, having put aside her hopes and dreams of love and marriage to be an independent woman and not be a burden on her family. She deserves the best of happy endings. I love how Waldo brings out the mischievous side of her and her sense of humour which no-one else has ever really appreciated.
Some have criticise her reaction to the misinformation about Waldo's secret. I think her reaction and reluctant belief is very credible. Heyer makes sure we understand that Ancilla's only real experience with the Corinthian Set of which Waldo is a leader, is though her cousin Bernard and his friends. These are very likely the kind of loose young men who would do what Ancilla believes Waldo to have done and not see it as very wrong. Combine this with the kindly meant warnings of Mrs Chartley, the half understood ramblings of Waldo's nephew, and it's not surprising that Ancilla is forced to believe the worst.
The romance itself is very sweet, growing day by day to it's natural conclusion rather than a thunder-clap of Love at first sight. We can see how perfectly matched they are which makes it doubly hard when things go wrong.
Ancilla's charge, Tiffany, is annoying and irritating but not enough to spoil the book, especially as we are meant to find her so. The other characters are well drawn and enjoyable.

Wonderful story of love against adversity.
Revisado: 03-15-12
What can you say about a book where the hero loves and believes in his true love almost from the first moment? Olivia Gates takes her lovers, Shaheen and Johara, and places their romance in a situation where things like a sense of duty and external influences threaten to tear them apart. In a genre where misunderstanding and angst between the protagonists is the usual way to drive the conflict this book came as a pleasant surprise. There was plenty of tension and anxiety but the relationship between Hero and Heroine remained a shining light throughout. Olivia writes great prose and brings out emotions that engage and sex scenes that sizzle. I listened to this book on audio on my kindle while driving and became so involved I continued to listen once I arrived home against my usual practice.

Revisado: 01-09-12
Where does Possessed by the Sheikh rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Excellent story and well read. My first from Audio and very well worth it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The hero and heroine were very appealing
Have you listened to any of Juani Tantillo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first audibook of this type. As an Australian listening to a book by an English author I found the American accent strange at first but she did very well with the arabian feel of the language.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was very enjoyable. Good humour in places and moving as well.
Any additional comments?
My first time listening to romantic scenes and found some words a little jarring but only because I wasn't expecting them.
