Historia
The Reservoir follows an unexceptional man in an exceptional time. We see our present-day pandemic world and New York City through the eyes of a former Wall Street veteran, Ridley, as he, in his enforced quarantined solitude, looks back upon his life. He examines his wins, his failures, the gnawing questions - his career, his divorce, his estranged daughter - and questions what it all means and who he really was.

Odd story set during Covid pandemic
Revisado: 09-22-23
Quite an odd little story. Set during the 2020-21 Covid pandemic lockdown it details a man’s mental state as past and present become twisted in his isolation. Narration was good. Story was better than ok but not great.

unique woman who made champagne what we know today
Revisado: 09-22-23
Although Veuve (Widow) Cliquot’s version was sweeter than what we Avro today, it satisfied the tasted of the Napoleonic era. Madame Cliquot was a definite trailblazer:
Unique in that she was probably the first woman to start and run an international consumer company when most women stayed at home, subservient to the men, even to the point of loosing control of their inheritance once married
Uniquely held her own against more influential male champagne makers
Unique in innovating what are now standard champagne making and marketing practices
You don’t need to be a wine aficionado to enjoy this book, it is also a remarkable historical work unveiling of woman’s lives during an era when only famous people (mostly men or women rulers) were contemporaneously documented.

Lizzy Moon never wanted Moon Girl Farm. Eight years ago, she left the land that nine generations of gifted healers had tended, determined to distance herself from the whispers about her family’s strange legacy. But when her beloved grandmother Althea dies, Lizzy must return and face the tragedy still hanging over the farm’s withered lavender fields: the unsolved murders of two young girls, and the cruel accusations that followed Althea to her grave.

Narrator voice and inflection irritating distraction from wonderfully inventive story
Revisado: 01-11-23
Listened to this during commute time with Audible.
The thing that sticks with me most is the narrator’s voice - that irritating nasally scratchy whisper-drawl that seems common in a lot of younger American women in the past 10-15 years. Grates on me as it’s a pure affectation of that generation
On the other hand, I’m glad I didn’t ditch the book as initially inclined upon hearing that voice.
The story was imaginative, with 4 well developed characters and towards the end added a 5th character (estranged mother) with good character for her limited presence.
Will try other works from this author if the narrator is different, or try on kindle. However I look for good books with involved plots and strong characters to fill my hour-plus commute.

Historia
America's Great Plains once possessed one of the grandest wildlife spectacles of the world, equaled only by such places as the Serengeti, the Masai Mara, or the veld of South Africa. Pronghorn antelope, gray wolves, bison, coyotes, wild horses, and grizzly bears: less than 200 years ago these creatures existed in such abundance that John James Audubon was moved to write "it is impossible to describe or even conceive the vast multitudes of these animals".

Compelling indictment of American past treatment that destroyed eons of evolution
Revisado: 12-29-22
The American Plains was the equal of the African Serengeti before the mid-1800s. Civilization destroyed it through a combination of outright greed and mus understanding if the ecology if grasslands. Wholesale slaughter of all animals and plowing under the vast grasslands eventually creating the infamous dust bowl of the 1930s
However the author holds out hope for reclaiming the desolation and “rewilding” the sections of the plains to return it to a national park so Americans dint have to travel to Africa to see vast herds of large wild animals. Africa is a trip most Americans can’t afford, but judging by the visitation numbers, millions of Americans can afford to visit US National Parks and could see our version of the African Plains

Girl on Quixotic Quest
Revisado: 11-24-22
Great story of young Mexican teen on a quest to the US to repatriate men to her small town.
Interesting views as she (and 3 friends) experience their first time outside her dirt road town. Wide-eyed and, in turn, either amazed or flabbergasted they encounter their first large city, truly poor people, the US border, surreal immigration, illogical bureaucracy, the winders if San Diego, and a surreal cross country drive to the cold north.
Quite an interesting perspective on the immigration experience and the uniqueness of America.

At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

Misleading title & description
Revisado: 09-17-21
Sorry but i could only take an hour of this very self-absorbed recounting of (mostly) the 23 year old’s love life. This was interspersed with recollection, reflections and comments if her 91/2 year old grandmother. Grandmother sounds as if she led an interesting life if atypical for her generation. However she was a fleeting character who slid into the story gor brief, very brief interludes. Disappointing.
Narration seemed choppy but unable to decide if it was narrator’s or author’s technique

Historia
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.
