Sara Shepard can be really hit-or-miss, but this series is definitely a 'hit'. I'm a fan of Pretty Little Liars in a guilty pleasure sort of way and these books gave me that same feeling, like being a teenager again.

This book is the second (and final) in a series, The Perfectionists being the first book. You have to read them back-to-back to get the full story! This one goes more in-depth about the characters and has a satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed this series all the way through, laughing at points the author didn't really intend to be funny, but that's why I love them so much. ;)

Just a warning to big fans of the Perfectionists TV show looking to read the source material, prepare for a bit of a shock. It's not actually tied to PLL in any way, and they made lots of changes in the show, so it will definitely be quite a bit different from what you expect! IMO I like the books a lot better though, so you shouldn't be disappointed.

I'll admit it. My husband and I consider Pretty Little Liars our guilty pleasure. When we heard a spin-off series was coming out based on these books, we decided to power through them so we could compare & contrast.

Look, Sara Shepard isn't some kind of literary genius. These books are easy to get through, simple to follow, nothing too deep. But that's why they rock. These stories make me feel like a teenager again. The gossip, the high school drama, the shallow murder mystery... it's great. We found ourselves cracking up at moments the author definitely didn't intend for us to laugh at, but that's what makes them such a wonderful experience.

The only complaint I have is this one ends too abruptly! As soon as we finished it, we simply couldn't wait for another credit to come through and we just went ahead and purchased the next book full price. You have to have the second one on-hand to get the full story!

When the show finally came out we were actually incredibly disappointed how much they changed from the source material. It's a good story on its own but not connected to PLL in any way. If you are a fan of the Perfectionists show, you might be a little bummed if you expect Ali and Mona to be around in the books.

Fascinating look at Eisner

Disney is a company that has always focused on having a squeaky clean face, but behind the scenes it's a cut-throat corporate machine bent on world domination... all thanks to ex-Chairman & CEO Michael Eisner.

This book focuses on Michael Eisner's time as CEO of Disney (1984-2005), as well as a brief history of the company leading up to that point. This era was a huge turning point in the company's history, and understanding what happened during that time is essential to understanding how the company went from Walt's creative outlet to the corporate juggernaut it is today.

I loved every second of this one. I learned a lot and the narration was great. 5 stars, highly recommend to anyone who is interested in Disney & American pop culture through the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

I am a huge fan of the podcast Swindled, which primarily covers stories of white collar crime and corporate scandals. The podcast went on hiatus between seasons and I needed something to hold me over! That's when I took to Audible and found this book. I can definitely say it filled that void and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The story is about a Malaysian man who schemed his way to billions of dollars through political conspiracy, bribery, and loopholes, mostly to impress Hollywood celebrities and make rich people think he was cool.

If you're like me and enjoy infuriating stories of greed and corruption you will love this one!
(You will also love Swindled podcast, go check it out.)

I'm a young woman who is just beginning a career in programming and picked this up to see what I'm getting into. This book left me feeling very optimistic and excited to enter this field! You get to hear all about the history of coding, interviews with people in the industry and stories of programming pioneers. I liked the narration and never felt bored.

Some people in the reviews seem to complain about the author's political views, but I don't think they're that bad. He does talk about the fact that coding is an industry dominated by white men, even though it was a career targeted at women at one point in history, and posits why/how/when that changed. Personally I find that interesting and not offensive or uncomfortable to think about.

Overall I would mostly recommend this to anyone interested in learning to code. It's a good jump-off point to see how things began, how far they've come, and what the future holds.

As a kid born in 1991, I just barely missed the 16-bit era of video games and mostly grew up on N64 and Playstation. I have watched a lot of video game reviewers on YouTube discuss the console wars and I thought I knew everything, but this book proved me wrong! This story is told primarily from Sega of America's perspective and you get to know all about their marketing strategies and squabbles with Sega of Japan plus much more. It is a long book but I got through it very quickly because I couldn't stop listening. It has a good sense of humor and the narrator does a great job making the story feel 'theatrical' instead of just reading at you. He does mispronounce some names here and there but it's not a dealbreaker.

Overall I highly recommend this one. You don't even really need to know much about video games to enjoy it or follow along.

I thought the story was quite interesting, though in my opinion it was padded out a little longer than it needed to be.

Also, the book is narrated by the author and his cadence can get very tedious. Mr. Holiday, I like your writing, but please hire a voice actor for your next audiobook!

Overall, if the story sounds like something you might be interested in, I'd recommend it under the circumstance you up the speed a bit.

I am a big fan of Sara Shepard novels. They are quick, easy reads that are my ultimate guilty pleasure. However, I found this one to be a total drag. I got about 6 or 7 chapters in and was honestly getting restless from boredom. For such a dry story, this audiobook could have benefited from more animated narration, but it too was very bland. I won't be finishing this one, kinda sad I wasted an Audible credit on it. Wouldn't recommend.
