The sweeping romance of Passenger meets the dark fantasy edge of This Savage Song in this stunning contemporary fantasy debut from Vanessa Len, where the line between monster and hero is razor thin.

I loved everything about this story, as well as the audio performance. It was easy to slip into, and I felt invested in the characters and their future outcomes.

If 14-year-old Cassandra Reed makes it through her first day at Miss Castwell’s Institute for the Magical Instruction of Young Ladies without anyone discovering her secret, maybe, just maybe, she’ll let herself believe that she really does belong at Miss Castwell’s. Except Cassandra Reed’s real name is Sarah Smith and up until now, she lived her whole life in the Warren, serving a magical family, the Winters, as all non-magical “Snipes” are bound by magical Guardian law to do. That is, until one day, Sarah accidentally levitates Mrs. Winter’s favorite vase in the parlor....

Very Fun Story
Revisado: 02-19-23
Sarah and her friends were delightful, and I thought the dialogue was in turns sweet and humorous. I was taken in by the setting and the plot, as well as the budding romance. The antagonists seemed to be missing something that rendered them more silly than anything, but for me that didn't detract from my enjoyment. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Good narration. Interesting story. Wasn’t convinced by the romance, but thought everything was sweet overall nevertheless.

Wonderfully Written and Narrated
Revisado: 06-24-22
I enjoyed the characters, the writing, the narration, and most of the plotline immensely. There was obvious chemistry between the lead couple, and the flashbacks to their courtship were endearing. The ending was a romantic one, although it seemed a bit rushed and perhaps a little too silly. The only real drawback was, for me, a big one, however. While it doesn't frustrate me too much to read about a male lead behaving badly, what does frustrate me is when the female lead twists it into being her own fault, generally just doesn't hold the slightest grudge about it, or both, which is what happens in this story. It's not a resolution, is rather unsatisfying, and made me wish Miranda would simply move on to someone else.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Wendy Darling’s life is not what she imagined it would be. The doldrums of an empty house after her brothers have gone to school, the dull parties where everyone thinks she talks too much, and the fact that her parents have decided to send her away to Ireland as a governess - it all makes her wish things could be different. Wendy’s only real escape is in writing down tales of Never Land. After nearly meeting her hero, Peter Pan, four years earlier, she still holds on to the childhood hope that his magical home truly exists.

Solidly Okay
Revisado: 10-17-21
The writing and narration was good, and the characters spot-on, but it was also slow-paced and placid enough that I lost interest a third of the way through.

The Ending Killed the Rest
Revisado: 10-15-21
It was a great story, aside from the horrible endings given to the characters. I had been enjoying it before, but now it seems like a waste of time.

Yikes on Spikes
Revisado: 07-26-21
I abhored the male and female lead so much that, by chapter five, I had to throw the whole book away (read: I returned it). The male lead is absolutely rude and infuriating, and the female lead doesn't hold him at all accountable for it. The only thing he says that I agree with is when he belittles her anger for being weak and unconvincing. It IS weak and unconvincing, and so is this story.
