Historia
Shesheshen is a shapeshifter, who happily resides as an amorphous lump at the bottom of a ruined manor. When her rest is interrupted by hunters intent on murdering her, she constructs a body using a metal chain for a backbone, borrowed bones for limbs, and a bear trap as an extra mouth. However, the hunters chase Shesheshen out of her home and off a cliff. Badly hurt, she's found and nursed back to health by Homily, a warmhearted human, who has mistaken Shesheshen as a fellow human

Creepy and heartwarming
Revisado: 12-10-24
The story was creepy but also about chosen family and love. Heartwarming in a way you would not expect at first. Overall, a good listen once you got into it.

Historia
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Enjoyed the whole story
Revisado: 11-11-24
The beginning was a little slow, but once the story got going, it was very enjoyable. Mystic and a little dark.

Hard to get though
Revisado: 06-14-23
The stories drew on and on, not very easy to get through. The sun plot about a barely adult and teacher was also odd, especially in the last chapter where the son gets chided by his mother and bride. I’m not sure what adventures were had either.

Enjoyable listen
Revisado: 02-27-23
Enjoyable listen with some twists in the plot. Character love interest was a little bit of a yawn with fiancé - but I won’t go into details bc that would mean spoilers.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Historia
Things are heating up for Lila Macapagal. Not in her love life, which she insists on keeping nonexistent despite the attention of two very eligible bachelors. Or her professional life, since she can't bring herself to open her new café after the unpleasantness that occurred a few months ago at her aunt's Filipino restaurant, Tita Rosie's Kitchen. No, things are heating up quite literally, since summer, her least favorite season, has just started.

Too many details that don’t add to the story arch
Revisado: 03-07-22
Great attempt at inclusion in this story, but there were so many details that were general observations that they became distracting. I LOVED the first book from this series and struggled with this one, had to speed up the reading to get through it and drifted off often. The story could have been much better had the details pertained to the story arch instead of what often felt like forcing observations in.

Good book, suspenseful
Revisado: 11-02-21
The story is good and suspenseful. Some parts are a little laborious in the descriptions or analogies used. Characters are pretty well developed, but locations are okay in their descriptions. Overall, good little thriller.
