Sickening cases...
Revisado: 12-09-24
I'm from Galveston county, Texas and know all too well about all the girls who've been murdered in the area. It's so sickening to think that the area of Texas I grew up at had so many serial killers living & hunting in the area.

Historia
In this searing memoir of survival in the spirit of Stolen Innocence, the daughter of Warren Jeffs, the self-proclaimed Prophet of the FLDS Church, takes you deep inside the secretive polygamist Mormon fundamentalist cult run by her family and how she escaped it. Born into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Rachel Jeffs was raised in a strict patriarchal culture defined by subordinate sister wives and men they must obey.

Sickening, yet fascinating.....
Revisado: 04-19-24
The more I learn about Warren Jeffs, and the FLDS, the sicker I become. What a book! It is one you cannot stop listening to, yet you find yourself shaking your head in disbelief that a person (Warren Jeffs) could actually be THAT evil! His whole philosophy is to make people miserable. The FLDS is following an obvious schizophrenic, that is quite apparent! In closing, let me just say that I wish Rachel, and all her siblings who have left, nothing, but good luck! Those poor people deserve to have peace!!

Horrendous & Downright Frightening!
Revisado: 10-21-19
It is so scary & actually quite nauseating to realize a young man from a poor, dysfunctional family could be victimized & thrown into death row by the very people trusted to protect & serve our communities. The town Damian is from reminds me so much of the town I grew up in, with the same mentality & ignorance. It is no surprise they picked on Damien from the get go, especially that spherical blob named Jerry Driver. Every single one of the adults that chose to put three innocent kids in prison knowing full well they were innocent is an utter disrespect to the victims that lost their lives that day. This story has a somewhat positive ending for Damien, thanks to his supportive wife, who, most likely is the only person that has ever treated this man with decency & respect. Good choice in having Damien narrate his own book too. I recommend this book to all!

Xaviera Hollander's life as a call girl and Madam in the US was captured here in her frank 1971 landmark book. Whether this open account is a valid contribution to positive writing about sex at a time when this was a rare phenomena or an unnecessarily racy telling to titillate, it cannot be denied that it makes compulsive listening especially with the author's own voicing.

Deliciously Decadent!
Revisado: 10-21-19
I don't know if Xaviera exaggerated all her conquests, but if she didn't, all I can say is "Ooh La La!" Some of the sex in the book was actually repulsive, but others, somewhat sexy. This lady is the true expert on sex, that's for sure. Great book to listen to while stuck in Austin, Texas traffic!

Historia
On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Over the course of minutes, they would kill 12 students and a teacher and wound 24 others before taking their own lives. For the last 16 years, Sue Klebold, Dylan's mother, has lived with the indescribable grief and shame of that day. How could her child, the promising young man she had loved and raised, be responsible for such horror? And how, as his mother, had she not known something was wrong?

Couldn't Stop Listening....
Revisado: 10-21-19
This isn't a story at all. It is almost a diary account of the horror & destruction given to this lady & her family by their own son. At the same time the Columbine victims' families were going thru their own personal hell, Sue Klebold had to learn that her beloved son died a murderer. How this lady survived is beyond me. I wish I could say how interesting this book is to listen to, but I don't want to be perceived as a morbid. I will just say that the book is very sad and honest. I hope one day all the victims families and the parents of the perpetrators will find peace.

The horror this girl went through....
Revisado: 10-11-19
I listened to this audiobook while mowing and literally had to stop a few times in disbelief at how this girl's parents AND the authorities completely & utterly failed this young woman, especially that piece of garbage mother of hers. The authorities should be deeply ashamed of themselves as well. Jennifer is a strong, courageous woman who did nothing to deserve the trauma of abusive parents and then being ignored by law enforcement.

Historia
As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

Good book, idiotic narration
Revisado: 07-24-19
I wanted to finish listening to this book, but the narrator irritated me. He sounded too young & inexperienced. I don't know how to describe it. It was like a bearded hipster was reading it aloud in a coffee shop. Anthony should've narrated his own book in his deeper, sexy voice. Other than that, the book is extremely interesting to listen to.

Made me want to take a shower afterwards...
Revisado: 11-05-18
This audiobook was honest....yet repulsive. Nikki makes no apologies to how gross it really is. You actually get to almost feel how uttery horrible he felt on a lot of the days when he was recovering from a drug/alcohol binge. His description of the withdrawals brought back memories of my own opiate withdrawals and how revolting they really are. If anyone is thinking that heroin is cool, or some how romantic or will make you into a more creative person, think again. Truly listen to this man's physical withdrawals he had to endure. Opiate withdrawals are, without a doubt one of the most painful things you will ever go thru. I am so happy to know this guy is clean now. The only drawback to this book was the female narrator. Her voice sounds like she just got off the night shift at a truck stop strip club. Did he hire a Motley Crew groupie to narrate the female parts? She got on my nerves so, so bad! I actually fast forwarded thru her parts. Other than that, this audiobook was appalling, yet interesting. Two thunbs up!

World's Most Obnoxious Narrarator....
Revisado: 03-22-18
I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook until I heard the first sentence being read. I truly could NOT get into this story, because the narrarator went overboard when attempting to make different voices for different characters. For example, she spoke with a slow, creaky voice when she read the part of an old man. Ridiculous! The children's voices were, by far the most annoying of all, however. It made me so p*ssed, that I wanted to jump inside the story, and slap her! This audiobook would've been so much better without this obnoxious woman reading it. Even if she had not done the stupid kid voices, her own voice doesn't go with the overall story. She should stick to commercials for feminine products instead. Why must all the kids in this story speak nasal-like & stupid, like they are simpletons with chronic sinus infections? Oh, and the idiotic lisp she decided to add to the kid voices for effect..... LAME!
