Might appeal to fans of true crime books
Revisado: 08-03-20
I received an email from the author to enter a contest to win a copy of this book, but i'm not really sure how he got my email. The contest turn out to be for a review copy, and i'm terrible at writing reviews, but here goes.
First off.. This is not the type of book I would usually read. I don't really normally enjoy true crime fiction, or murder porn or even detective novel but I could see this novel appealing more to fans of those genres.
The story was OK. i not something that i couldn't wait to finish, but i never felt like I wanted to stop reading it either. Maybe if i was more of a fan of the genre?
The main character is not very likeable, but he basically tells you that right from the start.
The narrator did a good job. I found him easy to listen to and to have a pleasant voice. He did not have a big variety to the voices although there is no problem telling who is speaking at any moment.
I found myself getting confused a couple of times. Once about the details of a murder and their relevance and again during the big reveal at the end. it could have simply been that i was distracted during those moment and not the story itself. It didn't really hurt my enjoyment of the book.
There are some moment during the authors research that provided lots of details about the methods and motivations of real life serial killers. I enjoyed hearing that sort of stuff.
I found the length to be just about right.
The big question is... Is this worth a precious audible credit? i would say No. Its a good story, and worth buying on sale or borrowing from the library, but unless crime books are your thing... save the credit

For fans of halo and mass effect
Revisado: 07-12-19
I received this book as a promo
Going through my Audible account I realized that I had not reviewed this promo copy, so here it is several months later and off the top of my head
I have read this author in the past. several books from each of his other trilogies and really love those series. This is probably my least favourite of all his series. There’s nothing wrong with it, per se, I just prefer the space exploration side of his writing. With this book you get four novels which I felt actually made the story too long. You don’t have to read them all in one sitting but the first couple of novels end very abruptly it’s almost as if it’s the end of a chapter and not the end of a book.
All the stories are very fast pace read with interesting characters and tons of action. I have always found Scott universe to be well thought out and enjoyable. All of his book exist in the same universe and often crisscross characters from different series . If you are someone who loves reading the halo novels his books are definitely up your alley, although I am would recommend reading his other series (super carriers) first to get a better idea of the world these characters inhabit
The narration is excellent with each character getting their own unique voice and personality.
Getting four novels for one credit you can’t really go wrong
I would say this book is worth one of your hard-earned credits

A creep hotel is an ideal setting
Revisado: 03-27-16
Where does The Eaton rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is on par with most of the horror fiction stories that i had read so far. Mr Addis creates a super creepy atmosphere that make the reader want to discover every little detail.
The story is not too predictable and the monster is unique.
It's the performance that really takes the book to another level. I have never before heard such varied and unique character voices.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Eaton?
The most memorable moments of this was the hotel itself. I loved exploring along with the character the various levels of the hotel. You never never really know what they are going to find in the next room.
I also enjoyed the way the story switches between two time periods, wonderfully filling in the back story in an exciting way
What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?
When i first started listening to the novel, I actually thought the female characters were voiced by a separate female voice actor. That's how good Jeff Hays good does his voices. Each character is easily identifiable, believable and rich with personality.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A 100 year old underground hotel, 1 uninvited guest
