Historia
Sage Winters always knew her sister was a little different even though they were identical twins. They loved the same things and shared a deep understanding, but Rosemary—awake to every emotion, easily moved to joy or tears—seemed to need more protection from the world. Six years after Rosemary's death from pneumonia, Sage, now sixteen, still misses her deeply. Their mother perished in a car crash, and Sage's stepfather, Alan, resents being burdened by a responsibility he never wanted.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

The Body Keeps the Score- wonderful book
Revisado: 12-17-23
Excellent resource for the practicing mental health professional. I have been a doctoral level psychologist for over 50 years. The author provides numerous resources for professionals who work with trauma victims. The section on drama, play and art were particularly helpful. It is so easy for the average busy parent to forget how important they are in the life of a child. Having a setting where everybody gets to participate in a sport or dramatic production is significant. Traumatic memories for me include being cut from little league baseball without ever being given a chance to practice and improve my skills. The older men seemed to have little to no concern for the children they summarily cut from the team- when the child was 8 years old. Just one relatively small trauma, but I have remembered it go many years.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old Devil to his nephew, Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.

Screwtape Letters- a good listen
Revisado: 11-24-22
Screwtape letters has an excellent reader and a great story line. It is a true classic. The storyline reminds me of The Book of Job (Old Testament) and The Seven Deadly Sins ( major temptations all wrapped up in one manuscript. Men are easily tempted- and that’s just the way it is!

Good short program. I am a psychologist and have used the presenters “listening strategies” for years. They do work well - especially in a non-judgmental setting.

Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

The Body by Bill Bryson
Revisado: 05-02-22
The Body is a well done book in all ways. The sections are well researched and presented in a way the average non-medical person can understand. The author read the book. His voice is easy to listen to and explains all the subjects in a kindly way. In my opinion, every adult over 50 should read this book. It will help them understand “what’s going on with my body.”
