Historia
When aimless twenty-something Mara lands a job as the night-shift production assistant on her cousin’s ghost hunting/home makeover reality TV show Haunt Sweet Home, she quickly determines her new role will require a healthy attitude toward duplicity. Great performance of a satisfying story
Revisado: 09-05-24
This sits at the edge of cozy and scary—perfect autumn vibes! The main narrator does a great job, and I t’s also really fun that they chose to use a full cast for the tv episode clips. I don’t want to spoil the plot at all, so I’ll just say that I was definitely hooked and felt the spooky tension!

Historia
After 20-plus years in the land of the not-so-living, I didn't think a ghost could surprise me. Consider that winning streak over. While looking for the perfect piece of Seattle real estate, leave it to me to find the world's first ghost detective. Yeah, you heard that right. A ghost detective. The Supernatural Protection Agency has written her off as the ghost who cries murder, but this time she swears she's onto something big. Something real. Like a moth to a bonfire, I dive in headfirst, just in time for the trouble she's been following to take a U-turn.

Paris Daillencourt is a recipe for disaster. Despite his passion for baking, his cat, and his classics degree, constant self-doubt and second-guessing have left him a curdled, directionless mess. So when his roommate enters him in Bake Expectations, the nation’s favourite baking show, Paris is sure he’ll be the first one sent home. But not only does he win week one’s challenge—he meets fellow contestant Tariq Hassan. Sure, he’s the competition, but he’s also cute and kind, with more confidence than Paris could ever hope to have.

Another great story by Alexis Hall
Revisado: 06-13-23
Paris really is a hot mess, and I totally understand why that’s offputting to some people, but in order to have a meaningful journey to the place where he shows real growth we do have to see the reality of what he’s like. I really appreciated how much time and detail went into the resolution phase of this novel. Totally rooting for this adorable couple. Also, even in the hard/dark/annoying times, there’s still the signature Alexis Hall laugh out loud touches. And the narrator for this one is great, too. Great work all around!

Historia
Despite multiple waves of feminist revolution, today's single woman is still mired in judgment or, worse, pity. But for one brief exclamatory period in the 1930s, she was all the rage. Marjorie Hillis was working at Vogue when she published the radical self-help book Live Alone and Like It: A Guide for the Extra Woman. With Dorothy Parker-esque wit, she urged spinsters, divorcees, and old maids to shed derogatory labels, and her philosophy became a phenomenon.

This is a fascinating history of attitudes about single women throughout the 20th century. It’s interestingly told, and the narrator does a great job bringing vibrancy to the text.

Equally sexy and unsettling
Revisado: 12-19-22
This should work well for both fans of the original Arthur Conan Doyle story and those who haven’t read it. Following John Watson closely, this story is full of twists and turns, and many surprises that may be sexy, horrifying, or both! If you think you know this story already, you don’t know THIS version! The writing style and narration are both elegant and a pleasure to listen to, and I really wanted everything to come out well for Watson. The ending was a tad bittersweet, but also very satisfying.

Historia
To be born into a family of royal assassins pretty much guarantees that your life is going to be rather unusual. Especially if, like Miscellaneous 'Lanie' Stones, you also have a vicious allergy to all forms of violence and bloodshed, and an uncanny affinity for bringing the dead back to life. To make matters worse, family debt looms—a debt that will have to be paid sooner rather than later if Lanie and her sister are to retain ownership of the ancestral seat, Stones Manor.

Lanie Stones is such a fun character to follow on her journey! I really hope there will be more books featuring her! The author does a fantastic job narrating, too!

I read this in one go because I was so engrossed in the mystery! Sam Sylvester is a great character. I loved seeing them work things out while also gaining some confidence and getting a better life than the one they had before the events of the book. I love a good supportive ensemble cast! And OMG how great is Sam’s dad??? Seriously the best!

Historia
As a deafblind woman with partial vision in one eye and bilateral hearing aids, Elsa Sjunneson lives at the crossroads of blindness and sight, hearing and deafness—much to the confusion of the world around her. And she knows how wrong our one-size-fits-all definitions of disability can be. Part memoir, part cultural criticism, part history of the deafblind experience, Being Seen explores how our cultural concept of disability is more myth than fact, and the damage it does to us all.

Beautiful story about connecting with the land and ancestors
Revisado: 07-30-21
I love Eden Royce’s writing style, and Jezebel is a very sympathetic and relatable character. She wants friends and to honor her family, but she also cares enough for her own feelings of right and wrong to stand up for things she believes in even when friends or family disagree. This book puts empathy first and teaches a lot about the traditions of root work in South Carolina.

I was looking forward to this book for ages because I loved the concept of a girl who was a star, but the reality was even better than I had imagined. I loved Sheetal’s journey, her agency, her community, and the way that this story focused on empathy and hope. The starry court was so cool, too! If you want a book that leaves you feeling good, this is a great choice!
