Historia
Dr. Chauncey Crandall knows his patients well. When they are dying, he sits at the bedside with them and holds their hands. He prays with them. Sometimes he can feel what they feel and see what they see. At other times his patients have near-death experiences and "come back" with astonishing descriptions of the afterlife.

Infomercial for Christianity
Revisado: 01-22-25
This book is not what I expected. I expected a book that details a doctor’s accounts of profound and unexplainable encounters at the bedsides of dying patients, all of which serve to provide proof of an afterlife. Instead, the author spends the vast majority of the book preaching Christian doctrine and quoting scripture. He is as devout as anyone could possibly be, and he regularly speaks to his patients about Jesus and strives to convert non-believers, including Jews, to Christianity. I wonder about the ethics of such behavior. Now, the author certainly has every right to preach and quote scripture for nearly the entire 7 hours of this book. I just think the book’s description should be more transparent about the overwhelming amount of religious material that is presented. I don’t recommend this book to anyone who isn’t a hyper-devout, die-hard Christian.

Historia
In this thoughtful, inspiring, and deeply personal book, comedian, actor, and father Michael Ian Black gets (mostly) serious about the trouble with masculinity. In the form of a heartfelt letter to his college-bound son - but with ideas sure to resonate for many parents - he reveals his own complicated relationship with his father, explores the damage caused by the expectations placed on boys to “man up”, and searches for the best way to help his son be part of the solution, not the problem, in a world in which the word masculinity now goes hand in hand with “toxic".

Wow
Revisado: 01-22-25
Michael Ian Black has truly struck gold with this book. He deftly weaves between topics like love, sex, relationships, and societal problems, and then ties them to the overarching subject of masculinity. So much care, love, and wisdom went into the writing of this book, and although it was written to his son, almost anyone could relate to the words therein. The author’s narration is perfect, and I loved listening to every minute of this audiobook. I highly recommend it.

Historia
In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?

Truth
Revisado: 11-10-24
This is a truly eye-opening book. Douglas Murray gets right to the heart of the issue of self-hate in the West. His arguments are unassailable, and he presents a bleak picture of the current situation in America, Europe, and Australia. Clearly, it’s time to swing the pendulum back in the other direction. The self-flagellation has gone too far. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Historia
Begun in 1994, The Atlanta Study is the first comprehensive investigation of its kind into near-death experiences (NDEs). The study's name hardly captures what lies behind it: life-and-death dramas played out in operating rooms and hospital beds - and simultaneous events unseen by medical personnel but reported with astonishing clarity and conviction by nearly 50 individuals who returned from death's door. Now the founder of The Atlanta Study, Dr. Michael Sabom reveals their impact....

Excessively Religious
Revisado: 10-26-24
I was hoping to read an open-minded, unbiased book about near death experiences. Unfortunately, Light and Death is a preachy, Christianity-biased book written by a man who clearly has a strong agenda. Sabom is a devout Christian, and he tries to debunk all data that conflicts with his belief system. There is a reason that his data is so skewed toward the idea of a purely Christian afterlife, unlike the vast majority of other NDE studies and findings our there, and that’s because of his own religious beliefs. Confirmation bias is a pernicious problem when strong beliefs are present in studies. I will not read another book by Michael Sabom. The bias is overwhelming.

The Third Man Factor is an extraordinary account of how people at the very edge of death often sense an unseen presence beside them who encourages them to make one final effort to survive. This incorporeal being offers a feeling of hope, protection, and guidance, and leaves the person convinced he or she is not alone. There is a name for this phenomenon: It’s called the Third Man Factor.

This audiobook was one of my all-time favorites. I find the Third Man phenomenon to be truly fascinating, and this book provides example after example of varying types. I didn’t want the book to end. If you’re interested in amazing stories of survival that hinged on the presence of the Third Man, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed the content of this audiobook. I thought it was interesting and well-presented. However, the narration was amateurish at best. It was clearly not a professional production. I found it a bit distracting at times. The author’s narration was a bit dry and less than engaging. Professional production and narration would have done wonders for this audiobook.

Life On Delay is hands down one of the best, most honest, heartfelt, and powerful books that I have ever read. John Hendrickson is a master storyteller and writer. He takes you inside the life of stutterers, and you leave with a much better understanding and sense of empathy for those who struggle with speech. I would recommend this book to anyone with a heart.

Fantastic
Revisado: 10-07-23
I loved this book. I learned so much about the good and bad aspects of nursing. Some of the information was downright infuriating, such as the way nurses bully one another, or how so many nurses have been assaulted by patients. It was eye opening to learn about everything that nurses go through while taking care of the sick. I have the utmost respect for nurses, and this book was further validation of why I feel that way. Nurses should be celebrated and fully appreciated for their efforts. This book is a great start.

Revisado: 09-27-23
I have a keen interest in NDE research, and this book is really the gold standard for the scientific approach to the topic. Bruce Greyson has spent his life in pursuit of a more concrete understanding of the near death experience. There is no one wiser, or more devoted to the subject. This book is a lifetime’s worth of study and scientific analysis. One must approach controversial subjects with scientific rigor, especially if the goal is to gain wider acceptance. Dr. Greyson has done just that. His methods and analyses are unassailable, and he has contributed immeasurably to the subjects of life after death and consciousness. Everyone should read this book, especially skeptics.
