Historia
Gary Barlow is one of the most successful British musicians and songwriters of all time, but 15 years ago, as he himself admits, he hit rock bottom - he was out of shape, out of work, depressed. Food for him had become an addiction, a means not only of comfort but almost of self-medication as he grappled with the cruel twists of fate of musical stardom. In 2003, as he struggled with the disappointment of an underperforming solo career alongside the tireless media taunts; Gary turned to food.

Captivating, heartfelt and Brilliant

Firstly, I have to say that yes, I am a fan of Gary from the first time round with Take That. I found out about this book through a fan page on Facebook and immediately became interested. I pre ordered on Audible and waited for it's release. I was not to be disappointed. Anyone who knows Gary's music knows that he is one talented bloke. He is a natural writer and his own narration made the story come to life. I could literally picture the scenes being played out as if a movie. I laughed, I was thoughtful and I cried such tears that my 3 year old was running to dry my eyes and give me a hug. It's a fantastic story of a journey thus far of one of the most talented and capable men on this planet. He might be a self confessed non intellectual but that wouldn't put him in in the category of being non intelligent. He is natural and honest and his sense of humour shines through in spades. I can safely say that this would be a book that you would never regret buying and listening to. We can all learn a thing or two from Gary and my admiration for this man has only deepened through hearing his story. Congratulations Gary Barlow on a beautiful written book.

Need I say more?! She is absolutely fabulous! The story is fabulous! Listen to it as you will laugh and stop what you are doing to just sit, listen and visualise the characters in their roles doing all sorts of funny insane and (in some cases) ridiculously true things. This story is worth it!

I have only just finished listening to this story and am so hooked I bought the kindle version also. I just couldn't stop listening. I cried at the end with sorrow for the bullying women, that poor sweet little girl and for happiness because of the doors that had opened for the maids just because of their stories.
I grew up with a lot of what was underlying in this book. The critical mother was my mother and the lack of love for those children, my goodness!
I could see the chains around those women both black and white and I could also see the influences the maids had had on those young ladies especially the girl who helped to write the book. I wonder if the real life ladies who went through similar experiences really realize how much of a positive influence they had on the children they cared for that allowed for some change to happen.
When I wasn't listening to this story, the little voice inside my head took on the voices and "spoke" in that beautiful accent. It probably will for another week yet. It was really worth listening to and now when I go to read it in print form, those voices will still be with me.
I feel this story will be set to be a classic. No matter how much it takes from our recent history, people now and in the future need to read this book to know and understand and keep the change changing for the better. I take my hat off to those beautiful women who put up with so much and to the author of this book, you are a genius and thank you for such a wonderful read.

I have the book and now have listened to the audio version. It is a brilliant story and really well written. The narrator, although great at what she does, was a little trying to listen to in parts. I felt I was listening to an audio version of a Shakspearean play rather than a brilliantly researched historical novel - a little too dramatic and some of the voice portrayal was extremely melancholy on not fitting for what the character was expressing in some areas. Also I found she paused a little too often midway through a sentence - but then that maybe the difference between my reading it and her reading it.
I found I enjoyed taking the time and reading the book itself more than listening. Just my opinion though the story itself is excellent, the narration is not to the same standard.
Going through the motions of the story, Jacquetta is a young girl to begin with and an older woman by the end but the narrator portrays her as older all the way through. I was expecting her to age the character as the story progressed but it seems that my expectations were not to be realised. Instead, the narrator reads through an older woman's eyes as if she is looking back through her past. Just me again seeing things differently.
Don't let this deter you from listening to an amazing story - you may have a very different opinion of how the narrator reads the story.

I love this story! I read the whole series as a child and they were all my favourite. Now with reacquainting myself again with Anne, I realise that my love for this story hasn't gone. I hope to share this with my daughter and hope that she too appreciates the story for all it can give.
The narrator is obviously just as passionate. She's reading from her heart and soul. Truly something I could listen to over and over again.

Internationally bestselling author Philippa Gregory brings the tumult and intrigue of The Wars of the Roses to vivid life through the women of the House of Lancaster and the House of York, beginning with the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen. A woman who won the love of a king and ascended to royalty by virtue of her beauty, Elizabeth fought tenaciously for the success of her family -- her daughter who would one day unite the warring dynasties, and her two sons whose eventual fate has confounded historians for centuries: the Princes in the Tower.

Revisado: 01-15-11
Even though this is an abridged version, this audio is really good to listen to. I have several of Philippa's novels in hardcopy and have found that out of all of them, I haven't managed to actually read this one yet. Having listened to it though, I am eager to pick up the book and read it and pick up on the parts that have been missed out.
I love the way the different voices are portrayed with the different readers. It gives a sense of almost acting it out yet it is totally being read.
Once again a fantastic historial novel. Philippa has done a magnificent job in the writing of this book and I recommend you give this audio version a listen. You won't be disappointed.

When boys act out, get into fights, or become physically aggressive, we can't avoid noticing their bad behavior. But it is easy to miss the subtle signs of aggression in girls: the dirty looks, the taunting notes, or the exclusion from the group, that send girls home crying.

interesting and enlightening
Revisado: 11-21-10
I'm so glad I downloaded and listened to Odd Girl Out. My 8 year old daughter has been subject to constant "silent" bullying since starting Primary school last year. I did the right thing and approached teachers and even the school chaplin and Psychologist. Unfortunately though, I have been all but labelled an "over protective mother" and my pleas for assistance have been ignored. They don't recognise being left out with bullying and see children by themselves as nothing to be too concerned about.
At least with listening to this book though, I can relate with the stories and experiences given and feel the frustration and anger through many passages read to me as I relate to what is being told with my own childhood experiences plus the current events seen through the eyes of my child.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand further and uncover the mysteries what goes on with girls in their 'friendships' . It will take a few listens to gain some ideas as they are not obviously given.

Revisado: 09-09-10
I love the fact that a classic story such as this one has been given a new 'airing' because of a movie release. I had never heard of the story or the author before I knew about the movie but since researching and finding the Nurse Matilda stories and introducing them to my children (7 and 5 years), we have not looked back and have been enjoying listening to this wonderful piece of children's literature ever since.
It is a classic that should be up there with Little Women and Anne of Green Gables. A must read (or listen) for children from at least the age of 7. We have it playing in the car and I have repeated requests to play it again - my kids love it!
