Weaker than most Francis’ series of books

I’ve loved the Francis books since discovering them a couple years ago! However, this story wasn’t great and seemed like work getting to the end. There was a big surprise at the end, but I guess/figured it out. Also the voices for the squeaky voice (I guess it was intentional here), Chester’s wife, and even Chester’s lover were annoying.

Love how Conason draws the links from Roy Cohn’s shady schemes in the 1950’s to the current criminal schemes of Trump, his family, and other Republicans. I was surprised to learn how some Evangelical preachers were involved in various grifts make money.

Simon Prebble is so good! Love the way he delivers the story. Dick Francis weaves a story that always makes you think that you’ll never find the solution but bit by bit, with well-placed dead-ends, the solution appears. Fun read!

Cozy but with surprises!

The story made me mad and frustrated as Fell & Maggie blundered through the story. It was filled with missteps and catastrophe. Wondered if things would ever work out. Hope you enjoy it. I did.
