This story made me laugh
Revisado: 02-23-15
I enjoyed the story but didn't enjoy the narrator as much as the previous narrator. He just made Horatio seem very old. And very British.... Very Donald Sutherland.
A good number of parts of the book made me laugh. Another great Horatio Hornblower story.

Classic Julie Garwood
Revisado: 02-01-15
I remember reading his book in college which is when I first discovered Garwood. It was a pleasure to listen to it but I had a bit of a difficult time with the narrator. Her male voices grated on me a bit. If score a 3.5 if I could. Otherwise it was fun to hear this book in audio version after reading it 20 years ago.

Historia
The year is 1793, the eve of the Napoleonic Wars, and Horatio Hornblower, a 17-year-old boy unschooled in seafaring and the ways of seamen, is ordered to board a French merchant ship and take command of crew and cargo for the glory of England. Though not an unqualified success, this first naval adventure teaches the young midshipman enough to launch him on a series of increasingly glorious exploits.

It is a terrific story and performance. I had seen the BBC series a few years ago and finally thought to get the audio version. It's a purchase I don't regret. Im going to get the remains books now.

Great story and performance.

I wanted to listen to this straight through. The cadence was great, the historical commentary on both food and politics were perfect. I really cant think of a way to improve on the entire experience.
