Good Attempt, But What A Struggle
Revisado: 10-31-23
I absolutely hate giving a book less than 3 stars, but I STRUGGLED to finish this book. It was just too much. I appreciate that the author was trying to bring understanding to the forced sex roleplay/fantasy community. And I will admit I feel more informed about that lifestyle and I do genuinely appreciate that.
However, the storyline and plot were all over the place. The unannounced timeline jumping was dizzying and difficult to follow (I did listen to the audiobook, so maybe that was the issue). There were quite a few plot holes and weird situations with the MC’s parents.
I will most likely not be moving forward in the series. But a genuine cheers to the author for taking on a very difficult and controversial subject.

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Annoying Characters and Low-Quality Humor
Revisado: 10-30-23
I’ve struggled to get through this book. The characters were very annoying. I didn’t feel connected with any of the characters, including the main characters. I understand that this book would be classified as a comedy or spoof, but the humor was very low-quality. Most of this was filler, and after missing multiple chapters, the reader would still be able to follow the plot.

** spoiler alert **
4.5 stars
I received a free audiobook version of The Missed Kiss directly from the author. It’s extraordinarily well written and clear Lowe has come into her life as an author with a bang! (pun intended)
Disclosure: I’m not usually one for love triangles.
Throughout the story, I found myself growing fond of Luke; I’m a sucker for friends turned lovers. However, I couldn’t root for him because the first half of Lily and Luke’s relationship started while Lily was with Zack. Every time Lily and Luke were together behind Zack’s back, it was hard to listen to and I found myself wanting the scene to be over. And that is my only reason for giving this 4.5 stars.
So I guess I’m team “Please for the love break up with Zack properly so you can be with Luke and it not feel so icky”.
I will say I think the story ended perfectly. Taking the choice away from Lily was the only solution that made sense.
I’m very excited to see what Lowe comes out with next. This will definitely be an author I continue to follow!

Narrator’s voice too young
Revisado: 05-09-21
I enjoyed the story. It kept me entertained and I will listen to the next one. But the narrator had a very child-like voice. So it made it a bit odd when the sexual parts started playing out.

Historia
We come from two different worlds. I’m from the streets. She might as well live in an ivory tower. I made my living with my fists. I doubt she could even throw a punch. Our paths never should have crossed. We never should have met. That doesn’t change the facts. I would sell my soul to taste those red lips. Fight the devil himself to hear her laugh. Burn in hell to have a single night. Scarlett Priest shouldn’t even know men like me exist, but sometimes temptation is stronger than will. If this is how I go down, it’ll be worth every second of the fall.

Annoying Female Voice
Revisado: 01-06-20
I can’t stand the way the female narrator draws out the last syllable of words (whisperrrrrr). It’s very annoying. I try avoiding books she narrates, but I love Meghan March, so I deal with it. But I honestly think her reading effects how I view the whole book, because I didn’t love this story like I have others.

Historia
The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school - that is, it would be if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses, but it's really a school for spies.

Voice
Revisado: 12-05-19
The narrator used a very childish voice throughout this book. It’s was pretty annoying. These girls are Sophomores in spy school. They wouldn’t speak like fourth graders. I love the story, but I would have this book narrated by someone else.
