Mark Whatney is a great narrator and Wil Wheaton really brought him to life.

I loved this story, but was a little disappointed by maybe the last third. I thought it dragged out the difficulties Eleanor/Alyson experienced a little too long, and gave us some unnecessary deaths along the way. I also didn't love that when Eleanor/Alyson is finally set free, it is by a man, not by her own hard work or brains, those only ever get her into trouble. Maybe that was the point; maybe to be historically accurate the woman's accomplishments must always be destroyed and only by being good and kind and winsome can she earn her rescue. Maybe Cinderella had to have fairy godmother or otherwise she'd still be a scullery maid. But this modern reader found it all a little frustrating and tiresome by the end

I've read this book many times. The themes of memory and loss and love are some of my favorites. The characters are vivid and complicated and real. And Kay is one of the few authors I've ever read whose fight scenes and battle scenes are easy to follow and therefore interesting. Simon Vance does a worthy job of reading it.

The "twist" is unexpected because it's dumb. nothing in the proceeding however hours makes you think, "Oh, that makes sense!" It's a cheat. it's also the epitome of "telling" rather than "showing." I gve it more than one star because it build tesion and kept me guessing (and reading), but in the end I kind of wish I hadn't.

I've loved James Breakwell for years and was excited for his fiction debut. If I'd not already been familiar with him, though, I'd have given up three chapters in, not because of the writing, but because of the reader. He seemed bored by the story, and his cadence was weird. It go better when I put it on 1.2 speed, but it still wasn't the best.

This book is so full of cliches you wanna choke on them, but it's still really fun. I plan to listen to the other two Bianca St. Ives books.

First all those reviews that don't like the narrations and call it whiney...I'm tempted to say that they are all written by misogynistic a-holes, but every time you even imply that a man didn't give something a chance because he's sexist, you get, "Nuh-uh, not me, you hate men, you just don't know what's good." Anyway, I'll just say that Judy Greer is the perfect voice for who Kate starts as and who she becomes. The intercuts with interviews, quotes, texts, and real life NPR personalities both relieve the almost unbearable tension and ground the book in the real world. I really enjoyed it.

The story kept me on the edge of my seat until the last minute. The narrator over enunciated weirdly with to many pauses. It was weird.

The story is beautiful, but Jeremy Iron's narration in unsurpassed. There are about 800 characters, major and minor, and he gives each of them life with a distinctive voice and accent and manner that never veers into caricature. Brilliant!

This was just a fabulously fun superhero story. Witty, sexy, smart. Great action. Ominous bad guys. Not great art, but a great way to spend the day.
