Historia
All Bob Hoon ever wanted was a good whisky, and some peace and quiet. But, when Hoon hears that his friend and MI5 agent, Miles Crabtree, has gone missing in the United States, he is dragged back into action once more. The hunt leads him to the Florida Everglades, and into conflict with the violent locals, the terrifying wildlife, and a Sheriff with a sinister agenda of his own.

Another Great Hoon Adventure
Revisado: 07-21-24
I became a fan of JD Kirk through his DCI Logan series and Hoon was one of the characters I always loved so it was great to see that this series was created. I have listened to all the DCI Logan series and have now completed the current titles of the Hoon series. As an American, this story in particular struck my funny bone. I was laughing so hard during the first few chapters describing Hoon’s impressions of Florida I had to pause the book several times. JD Kirk has provided me with hours of entertainment through these two series. I would be remiss to not give a shout out to Angus King who is one of my all time favorite narrators. Since I am all caught up with the Hoon and Logan series, I am now trying another narrated by Angus King by Andrew Raymond. Looking forward to the next Logan and Hoon adventures.

Awful story line
Revisado: 05-20-24
Angus King’s narration is the only good thing about this book. I finished the first book in the series and thought it was OK. I thought I would give the second book a try to see if it got any better. Even if I put aside that the murder mystery itself is just not that interesting, I cannot get past the fact that a senior detective is OK with leaving his ex-girlfriend and his child to live with an abusive spouse. The story just perpetuates the idea that somehow it’s easier and better for a woman and her children to stay in an abusive relationship than to leave. Not only do I find this deeply disturbing and disgusting, it just continues to perpetuate the idea that violence against women is just not that big of a deal. It really makes me sad to see all of these positive reviews when that is such a large part of the storyline.

Historia
He slowly eased back on the throttle and brought the boat to a stop on the desolate river. They zipped the large canvas bag shut and then hoisted the body over the side of the boat and watched as it slipped beneath the dark surface. Looking to the west, they could see fiery storm clouds were brewing - an eery sign of the fire storm of brutal killings and ruthless revenge to come. Detective Mac McRyan returns home to Minnesota to find the dead body of a retired police detective in the scraggly trees along the rough shores of an island in the Mississippi River.

Another great book in this series. I have really enjoyed both the writing and narration.
