Triggery and Depressing :(

I loved this series, but this book is basically just drawn out domestic violence plus the main character being way more manipulative and evil than she's been before. It doesn't feel great, and is really stressful to listen to if domestic violence is an issue for you. The other books had moments, but this is just ongoing, and made this book impossible for me to get through.

The narrator is great, the shift in narrators is a surprise but after a chapter or so you forget she didn't narrate the whole thing!

So so so good!

I absolutely loved Lake Silence. It's just as good as the others in this world, but it's either a stand alone book or a start of a new series, which means you don't have to remember anything from the previous books, or can just start here. (Which is awesome!) There are cool world building references to earlier books, but it's nice to not have to remember the other plots to enjoy this book.

The story is really fun, the main character is really different from many in this genre, and we get to see some new sides of the Others (ex Elders, elementals) than we did in the others. I really loved the relationships, the influence of trauma/abuse, and the gorgeous detail that really sold the setting.

I particularly love this book (and the others) as an audiobook, because of all of that detail - meticulously explaining how someone walks down a trail, or how they dry a dish, really helps me feel in the moment when I listen to these.

I loved this book even more than the first. While the first reads like a fairytale, in this one, the story and it's characters get more complex and the path becomes quite suspension. Loved it, can't wait for the next one!!

Fantastic narration, not very original but fun

If you've read a fantasy about a male warrior - pretty much any one - most of this will be predictable for you. There are some cool details re: the religion and cultural systems! I wish there were more women characters (love interest + mom are the only ones, and they're one dimensional), but otherwise it's fun and well written.
