Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

This phenomenal production, featuring an exceptional cast, tells a thoughtful story for our time that blends technology and humanity. As a fan of Dune, Star Trek, 2001, and a vast trove of science fiction titles, I found this story to be an intriguing contribution to the genre that will resonate with like-minded listeners. Footnote: please disregard the review-bombing by right-wing, anonymous provocateurs who have almost certainly not listened while coordinating their tiresome, clichéd and redundant attacks. This is a nuanced Audible selection that has something for anyone whose mind is open to a thought-provoking journey into a hypothetical future as well as a very real present. I wish that Audible had a way for listeners to flag disingenous hate speech in its reviews.

Historia
It is 1890, and in the days before Christmas, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are visited at Baker Street by a new client. Eve Allerthorpe, eldest daughter of a grand but somewhat eccentric Yorkshire-based dynasty, is greatly distressed, as she believes she is being haunted by a demonic Christmas spirit. Her late mother told her terrifying tales of the sinister Black Thurrick, and Eve is sure that she has seen the creature from her bedroom window. What is more, she has begun to receive mysterious parcels of birch twigs, the Black Thurrick’s calling card.

I found this episode of Sherlock Holmes most enjoyable, written in the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and performed exceptionally well by the narrator.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Carles Dickens' masterpiece, as much as Hamlet is Shakespeare's, is made immediate, delightful, hilarious, and compassionate through an astonishing, masterful performance by Richard Armitage.

Historia
In Shakespeare's most controversial play, the opposing values of justice and mercy must be resolved. Antonio promises money to help his friend Bassanio woo Portia. He borrows the sum needed from the cruel Shylock, but there will be a dreadful penalty if the loan is not repaid. The golden world of Portia's Belmont calls forth some of Shakespeare's most lyrical love poetry. But the dark shadow of Shylock is never far from the heart of this brilliant comedy as it moves toward its courtroom climax.

Good source edition of the play as well: exceptional in every aspect. Thoroughly enjoyable! I hope more Shakespearean productions of this quality will be produced. Haydn Gwynne and Trevor Peacock were fantastic, and Bill Nighy was a delight as usual. An awesome cast and great music, too.

This collection brings together for the first time Ajahn Chah's most powerful teachings, including those on meditation, liberation from suffering, calming the mind, enlightenment and the "living dhamma". Most of these talks have previously only been available in limited, private editions and the publication of Food for the Heart, therefore, represents a momentous occasion: the hugely increased accessibility of his words and wisdom.

The body of a disgraced college lecturer is found on an abandoned railway line. In the four years since his dismissal for sexual misconduct, he’d been living like a hermit. Forty years ago the dead man attended a university that was a hotbed of militant protest and divisive, bitter politics. And as the seasoned detective well knows, some grudges are never forgotten - or forgiven.
