Historia
It begins with the murder of a New York socialite. Following the trail of the killers, Spider-Man is soon confronted by one of his oldest, deadliest enemies: the Lizard. Once a respected scientist, Dr. Curt Connors created a serum that he hoped would regenerate the arm he had lost years before. But the serum did more than regrow his arm - it turned him into the savage, human-hating creature called the Lizard.

This particular story grew harder and harder to listen to as it went on - I continued out of sheer stubbornness, rolling my eyes and groaning more and more frequently all the while. The performance isn't terrible, and the general premise is reasonable enough; but the slow, meandering plot, sloppy characterization, unsatisfying action, and lame dialogue are all shaky at best, and sometimes painful. Spider-Man's primary purpose in this story is to get his butt kicked soundly and consistently in literally every single encounter he is involved in, and I lost track of the times the Lizard uttered the line "now you die". This was the first time I have unequivocally regretted a purchase here on Audible, though I place this purely on the shoulders of the author, rather than Audible or the narrator. As a Spider-Man fan, I would not hesitate to warn others away from this particular story -"Spider-Man: Drowned in Thunder", "Untold Tales of Spider-Man" or "Ultimate Spider-Man" will be far better uses for your money or credits.

A great book with a great performance.

Would you consider the audio edition of Far-Seer to be better than the print version?
Well, it's unabridged, so I'd say "no". Just as good, mind you - just a different experience than reading it to one's self.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Far-Seer?
Afsan's commitment to rational scientific inquiry in the face of willful ignorance was quite compelling overall. I wish more humans held his principles!
Which character – as performed by Oliver Wyman – was your favorite?
Easily Afsan - he is the protagonist, after all; and gets most of the attention in the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. This is one point where I might prefer the print edition, as I can read more quickly than I could listen to the audio version!
Any additional comments?
Sawyer is a great author - seek out his other books! You won't be disappointed.

Historia
Fossil Hunter is hard SF in the tradition of Larry Niven about a world inhabited by the Quintaglios, a dinosaurian species that has evolved a human level of intelligence and culture. Toroca, a Quintaglio geologist, is under attack for his controversial new theory of evolution. But the origins of his people turn out to be more complex than even he imagined, for he soon discovers the wreckage of an ancient starship - a relic of the aliens who transplanted Earth's dinosaurs to this solar system.

Where does Fossil Hunter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Easily in the top 5.
What did you like best about this story?
Sawyer does a great job at creating a believable alien culture that is described well enough to still resonate with the reader. His protagonists are engaging, and his knowledge of paleontology adds additional levels of appreciation for a biologist such as myself. The little nods to parallel development of Quintaglio scientific development was quite amusing without being overly blunt.
Which scene was your favorite?
It's all pretty good. Toroca's methodical scientific inquiry and unusual mindset makes him a compelling and sympathetic character in pretty much every scene. I read this book first of the three back in the day, and I found it impossible to not get quite invested in Toroca's journey and personal problems. Dybo's arena fight is pretty epic.
Any additional comments?
Just that it's a great book. I look forward to listening to this performance again many times in the future.
