I adore this series. I have read it before and wanted to listen to it and up until this book, the performance has been amazing. I immediately noticed that the VA changed with this book, but I desperately wanted to persevere as this is my favorite book in the series. I can’t do it though. I’m going to have to revert to reading instead of listening to complete this series. The first time I heard the new VA voice Larkin, I just can’t do it. It’s bad enough that I’m going to be refunding this title and the next one I preemptively purchased.

I’m new to the LitRPG game and this is a great introduction. I would highly recommend this to anyone potentially interested in the genre - for parents scanning reviews, I would say this is appropriate for high school age or up. Like the title states, I am impressed with the author’s creativity, lack of predictability, and overall story creation. I got hooked on the series midway through book one, and I consumed books two and three as fast as possible - even losing sleep to continue listening. The humor is constant and multi leveled. Highly recommend this. Slight spoilers below for elaboration on previous.

Parents, concerning themes include cursing, dark humor, and imminent human mortality. Do not worry about sexual themes. There is minimal sexual content: minor innuendos two to three times.

Malice discusses many facets of a culture rising in America. At times being so accurate, I could remember interacting with those facets exactly as described. A central theme of this fantastic book is challenging your worldview given new ideas. This book does not instruct the reader how to think. It presents various characters in our world and describes how and why they think.
