Historia
It’s been fifteen years since Claire Calderwood’s sister, Rachel, was brutally murdered in their small hometown in Maine. Claire has finally carved out a life for herself as a homicide detective in Detroit, but the past comes calling when the local police back home ask for her help with a murder eerily similar to Rachel’s. Still haunted by Rachel’s cold case, Claire returns home, hoping to solve the crime and finally put her grief to rest. As she starts investigating, the last thing she needs is tenacious journalist Noah Washington asking questions she’s not ready to answer.

Not for me
Revisado: 06-18-19
This would be great for first time readers, BUT just not believable for seasoned crime readers. A homicide detective from Detroit does not just pack up and move back to her small town 'cause the police there can not solve ONE murder. It gets worse from there!

Gets tiring
Revisado: 06-23-18
I enjoyed #1, kinda. It almost appears the author gets paid by the word with all his going off in tangents about nothing to do with the story line. If I was reading instead of listening I could skip three or four pages at a time, as it is, I usually fall asleep before the good parts. And there are good parts, story line, and mystery reading,(listening). It just takes awhile so I'll skip ahead to the last couple of books and see if I have any more patience with those!

Could have been an interesting book!
Revisado: 11-07-17
I love any of the wagon train books as long as the author did his research. I, of course do not know first hand, but have read many Native American bios and their way of life and mind set and this author is way off! That being said, the narrator made this a very boring book. He ran sentences together, spoke in a hum-drum voice and I couldn't tell which character was saying what, when!!!!

Historia
The year was 1803. It was a time when the West was not only frontier, it was the undiscovered country. It was the time of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, before the trains of Prairie Schooners and settlers, before cowboys or cattle drives, before Colonel Colt and the six-shooter, and nearly a three quarters of a century before George Armstrong Custer and his men were killed at Little Big Horn. It was a time when the western fur trade was new, and only the first of the mountain men had left the Mississippi behind on their journey into the wilderness.

I love all Mr. Lewis's books and his narration makes them even more exciting! I am not one to read books over, and over, but I must confess this and the trail series have been listened to at least three times. His mystery genre not so much!

Historia
Val Darrant was just four years old the snowy night his mother abandoned him. But instead of meeting a lonely death, he met Will Reilly - a gentleman, a gambler, and a worldly, self-taught scholar. For 10 years they each were all the family the other had, traveling from dusty American boomtowns to the glittering cities of Belle Époque Europe - until the day Reilly’s luck ran out in a roar of gunfire. But it wasn’t a gambling brawl or a pack of thieves that sealed Will’s fate. It was a far more complex story that Val would soon uncover.

Narrator is a big disappointment
Revisado: 08-10-13
This book could have been a great listen and still don't know if I will finish it. I am embarrassed for a former actor whose voice is the same whether it be a 4-year-old, 40 year old, gunslinger, or madame!
I'm sure this is a wonderful interesting book by one of the greatest writers of all time and I'm sorry it was wasted by someone who just couldn't give it it's due diligence, interest, and artistic capabilities!

Historia
Threatened with forced removal from their Florida homeland, the Seminole and Miccosukee Indians took up arms. Using alligator-infested swamps to their advantage, they fought the US Army to a standstill. Unable to win militarily, General Thomas Jesup captured his enemies under flags of truce. With most of their people transported west, fewer than a hundred remained hidden in the heart of the Everglades, members of the only tribe never to surrender.

Returned
Revisado: 01-03-13
I love the Native American cultures and the knowledge, research & adventures written by this author. However, I do not care for her style of writing. She usually has multiple characters in different lives and in one sentence will jump ahead months or years and the reader is left scratching their head wondering what happened to the drama unfolding at the previous time zone. She might write about rituals, story telling, chants, songs, etc. for pages before you realize it is seven years later and there were a whole lot of good stories to be told in between times. Characters appeared and disappeared without a clue as to where or why.
I enjoyed "Ride The Wind" immensely and I did, in fact, read (listen) to "Ghost Warrior" to the end, even though it was one of the books which I described above.

Historia
"The Virginian's pistol came out, and his hand lay on the table, holding it unaimed. With a voice as gentle as ever, a voice that sounded almost like a caress, drawling a very little more than usual so that there was almost a space between each word he issued orders to the man Trampas: "When you call me that, smile!" And he looked at Trampas across the table. Yes, the voice was gentle. But in my ears it seemed as if somewhere the bell of death was ringing; and silence, like a stroke, fell on the large room."

Reading vs Listening
Revisado: 11-13-12
I don't know if I would have liked this so much if I was READING it. The narrator Gene Engene is a master at storytelling, voices, accents, southern drawls, drunkin drawls, and always the right place for pauses and emphasis.
I know if Mr. Engene is telling it it is going to be good. Why, he is even the best at singing cowboy diddies and high pitched preachings of the old gospels!
I can't praise Mr. Engene enough! Thank you.
