Historia
In this major statement, the renowned international-relations scholar John Mearsheimer argues that liberal hegemony, the foreign policy pursued by the United States since the Cold War ended, is doomed to fail. It makes far more sense, he maintains, for Washington to adopt a more restrained foreign policy based on a sound understanding of how nationalism and realism constrain great powers abroad.

Great listen - but pretty dense
Revisado: 02-25-19
I loved this book but at times it was hard to consume by listening as I had to rewind many times to understand the ideas. But my real criticism is for the performer who should have learned to properly say things like realpolitik before he was allowed to read this book.

Historia
Edward Ashford Lee explores the ways that engineers use models and abstraction to build inventive artificial worlds and to give us things that we never dreamed of - for example, the ability to carry in our pockets everything humans have ever published. But he also attempts to counter the runaway enthusiasm of some technology boosters who claim everything in the physical world is a computation - that even such complex phenomena as human cognition are software operating on digital data.

Really technical - a difficult listen
Revisado: 11-04-18
I’ve listened to over a dozen technical books but this was the first one I really struggled to understand by listening alone. It’s very technical and references supplementary PDFs quite a bit. Would definitely be a better hard copy read.

Great book on the future of cyber!
Revisado: 01-11-18
This was a required book for one of my graduate school courses and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. Only criticism is when the narrator correctly pronounced Chinese names, but somehow mispronounces well known military acronyms.

Historia
Machine learning is vital to the world of information technology. While many people may have no idea what machine learning is, they have probably used it sometime in their daily lives. For example, if you have ever done a search query on a search engine, you have worked with one form of machine learning. The program to do your search query has been trained to find the best results based on what you are looking for, and it will also learn from the choices that you make.

This book was very helpful for me in understanding the differences between artificial intelligence and the different types of machine learning. Only criticism is that it felt casually written and produced.

Great story, but...
Revisado: 12-10-17
This was a fantastic store, but the author read the audiobook herself and so badly mangled the pronunciation of basic military words and acronyms that at times it made it difficult for me to consider her research credible.

Historia
The future is now. Artificial "machine" intelligence is playing an ever-greater role in our society. We are already using cruise control in our cars and automatic checkout at the drugstore and are unable to live without our smartphones. The discussion around AI is largely polarized; people think either machines will solve all problems for everyone or they will lead us down a dark, dystopian path into total human irrelevance. Regardless of what you believe, the idea that we might bring forth intelligent creation can be intrinsically frightening.

Historia
An examination of a world increasingly defined by disorder and a United States unable to shape the world in its image, from the president of the Council on Foreign Relations. Things fall apart; the center cannot hold. The rules, policies, and institutions that have guided the world since World War II have largely run their course. Respect for sovereignty alone cannot uphold order in an age defined by global challenges from terrorism and the spread of nuclear weapons to climate change and cyberspace. Meanwhile, great power rivalry is returning.
