When I was a child, I used to spend so much time looking out a window daydreaming.I mean, my mind would just run away from me! As a child, it was fine, but the problem comes when, as adults, we still do not reign in our thoughts. This is where part of this spiritual war is fought. Our fears, worries, fantasies, and feelings will try to take over, but we are not left without defense.God has given us His armor, and he's given us something to protect our minds: the Helmet of Salvation. This spring on the Prayers of REST Podcast we are praying through the Armor of God as we rest in the victory of ...

Glad I took this journey with Garrison. Fun and reflective. Not sad or regretful at all.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

Faith and bravery that created a Christmas miracle.
Revisado: 12-19-21
This is a story about Faith and bravery that shows the good side of humanity in a war.
The characters and scenario portrayed a close up vignette of a day and night of a troop of young soldiers in the year 1914; the closest I'll ever be to being there.
Christmas 1914 for these young men was a true Christmas.

Fun story with excellent acting and no profanity
Revisado: 10-21-21
As a student in Rome in my younger years, there was much I could relate to.
I felt the characters were well defined and real. This was a feel good story with humor.
I may listen again. I will look for another listen by this team.

Historia
Birds are astonishingly intelligent creatures. In fact, according to revolutionary new research, some birds rival primates and even humans in their remarkable forms of intelligence. Like humans, many birds have enormous brains relative to their size. Although small, bird brains are packed with neurons that allow them to punch well above their weight.

I learned quite a bit about these fascinating creatures
Revisado: 07-01-21
I have had tropical birds as pets much of my adult life so therefore knew that the term "bird brain" was incorrect.
Jennifer Ackerman does a great job on defining the habits, personalities and intelligence of birds.
Recently I had some wrens build a nest in the most heavily trafficked area of my house, my entrance planters. Close up watching of the creatures loyalty and non-stop hard work, gave me some first hand info, but other than my tropical bird pets, birds are at a distance and fly far from me.
Ackerman's book filled in some huge gaps on these brainy, fiercely intuitive creatures.
To me, The Genius of Birds a reference book to visit again and again from time to time.
I normally dislike authors narrating their own books, but in this case her narration seemed perfect.
Personally, as this book was recommended to me; I would recommend this book to others who are greatly or mildly fascinated by birds.

When 70-year-old Charlotte Perkins submits a sexy essay to the "Become a Jetsetter" contest, she dreams of reuniting her estranged children: Lee, an almost-famous actress; Cord, a handsome Manhattan venture capitalist who can't seem to find a bride; and Regan, a harried mother who took it all wrong when Charlotte bought her a Weight Watchers gift certificate for her birthday. Charlotte yearns for the years when her children were young and she was a single mother who meant everything to them. When she wins the cruise, the family packs all their baggage - literal and figurative....

Characters alive through illustrative narration
Revisado: 06-14-21
I feel that the narrators are as important as the storyline when it comes to audible books. This narration was one of my favorites. I got to know, feel and understand each character, chapter by chapter. I would shake my head one moment and laugh out loud the next. The final touch was that this story had a soft, but believable heart-filled landing
Being able to relate to the travel geography as well as the family dynamics made this story familiar and was just plain fun to listen to.
I will keep an eye out for this author/narrator duo. Thank you!

Hard to hear at times
Revisado: 02-24-21
This book became dreary after a while. The sad truth is that my health is my responsibility and as a older citizen I spend time educating my self on how to stay healthy and active to avoid the clutches of our medical area
Another family member has prime healthcare and I've seen this person a victim of unnecessary tests and procedures; sometimes destructive by doctors of color. This was because they had good healthcare.
Don't be a victim.
The narration was difficult to understand at times.

Captivating
Revisado: 02-23-21
I began this novel while on the plane on route to my vacation. Because of the absence of distractions and my ability to focus, I was able to become entrenched in this novel; something I've had trouble achieving for a while.
Maybe that is why this story took off and captured me. The characters became alive through believable narration and good verbal illustration. The story was not a typical formula but creative and unpredictable for the most part.
It has been one of the best stories I've read in along time
I will be on the lookout for more stories by Rachel Beanland.

A carousel of moving pieces
Revisado: 12-07-20
Taking place in Italy, on a train, in the snow, the story unfolds with a blend of some Italian language and its culture, music and theater at Christmas time.
I am not drawn to romantic stories much, but this is a fun, clean, innocent story with a nice happy ending. Why not? It’s 2020!
