Tooooooo Wordy!
Revisado: 10-20-23
The overall intent is intriguing and worthwhile, but there is sooo much fluff. I hope I will remember to avoid this author in the future. I know she legions of fans who must love the unnecessary or repetitive details; I am not such a person.

Fills the bill
Revisado: 09-06-22
Audible recommended this book because I listened to a Sophie Kinsella novel, so I knew the main character would have many problems that would all sort out in the end. It’s a decent listen that does what it’s supposed to do. It is disappointing, however, that it was published in 2021 with absolutely no mention of the current pandemics; this could have added a whole level of meaning to this basic chick lit. It’s rather irresponsible to completely fail to include such a momentous factor - fiction or not.

Historia
England, 1920. Eleanor Swift has spent the last few years travelling the world: taking tea in China, tasting alligators in Peru, escaping bandits in Persia and she has just arrived in England after a chaotic 45-day flight from South Africa. Chipstone is about the sleepiest town you could have the misfortune to meet. But then, from the edge of a quarry, through the driving rain, Eleanor is shocked to see a man shot and killed in the distance. Before she can climb down to the spot, the villain is gone and the body has vanished.

Too Long for No Reason
Revisado: 06-09-21
I know that mysteries need extra material throughout to build and support and add interest, but there’s a fine line between build/support and trail on needlessly. This does the latter. To be clear, this is my first and last Verity Bright mystery.

It’s great to get these shorter versions of Spencer! Plus, it was three for the price of one.

Historia

Now, in Miss Julia Takes Over, with her sharp tongue and iron backbone intact, Miss Julia must tackle another disruption when Hazel Marie doesn't return from a dinner date. Miss Julia hires J. D. Pickens to investigate, despite her reservations about his taste for beer and women.

VERBOSE!!!

Good mystery but too much unnecessary commentary! Honestly, we could probably shave off an entire hour or more if we remove some of the repetitive internal dialogue.

Too Long for Nothing
Revisado: 01-15-20
This story has very little plot and a highly unsatisfying ending. Several times throughout, it looks like something is going to happen. Don’t be fooled. Nothing is going to happen. The performance is entertaining-to an extent. But all of the stray paths and diversion extra extras ruin the whole novel. Spare yourself.

Poor Reading Performance
Revisado: 07-04-17
Overall, this book is a decent read. There are several plot lines, plus, the expected suspense. It's not a thriller, but it does include creditable material regarding the workings of government agencies. The reader, however, needs help. You can hear him swallowing spit again and again unless you have something happening in your background space so that you are distracted from that noise. Worse, his pausing is way off. He may pause in the middle of a sentence then finish with what seems like an unconnected fragment until you recall the previous sentence. He may pause in the middle of a scene in a chapter long enough to make you think that he is going on to another scene, but he's not. Then, when he does go on to another scene, he may not pause at all. On top of all this, either his reading or the author's writing is choppy because there are few, if any, extended phrases or sentences.
