The True Story behind Masters of the Air

Despite being named after Don Miller’s book, this is the book that Apple’s Masters of the Air is based on. It’s an excellent primary source of the bomber war over Europe. As a former USAF Nav, Crosby really captures the essence of being aircrew in my opinion.

Stewart didn’t dissspoint

They say you should never get to know your heroes; fortunately, Patrick Stewart did not follow this stereotype. I appreciated Stewart’s humanity and humility. He always talked very graciously about the people he worked with in the film snd theatre industry.

Best series I’ve read in a while.

A good historical fiction, I enjoyed it almost as much as Wouk’s Winds of War/War and Remembrance. However, each book’s brevity made it much more accessible than Wouk’s magnum opus. Each book is short, but action packed and efficient in story telling. I was never left unsatisfied by each story - just wanting to read the next one. The only thing that disappointed me was I wanted one more patrol on the Sandtiger.

Probably my favorite Expanse Novella

The thing I like about this novella is that no one is the good or bad guy, making it hard to root for one side or the other. I tip my hat to the authors for coming up with such a devilish narrative.

Finished Strong

The Punks Trilogy is my favorite military fiction I’ve read. The books really capture what it is like to be a military aviator.

The reality of learning to be military aviator

Mr. Carrol puts to paper what it really is like to be a new military aviator. No one is born a Maverick, they have to be made. He also brings to light the difficulties with integrating women into the military aviation. He does a good job of showing the male perspective on the matter.

The entire gang is there: the douchebag careerist, the passed over old hats, the new guy learning the ropes, and the O3s that make the mission happen. VF-104 is the quintessential flying squadron.

Switching Narrators

Without saying it’s a good book and the narrators weren’t bad, but they kept switching them. The book started out like it was an audio play where each character had a different narrator. However, some chapters would have a completely different narrator for the characters. I assume the recording was originally abridged and later had the unabridged sections added with a single narrator.

Bittersweet ending for me.

Bittersweet best describes my feelings in regards to the ending of this book and the series. This series is my favorite sifi series of all time. I knew going into it I probably wouldn’t be completely satisfied with the ending. I’ll say I neither hated or particularly loved the ending; however, I love the characters. I can live with how they all ended up. Thank you Ty, Daniel, and Jefferson for giving me these characters.
