Not a good audiobook
Revisado: 03-28-24
while the book itself is very good, describing interesting phenomena of black holes in easy to understand way, the descriptions rely too much to assumption that one can look the accompanying pictures. There is zero effort to make the book really an audiobook. Buy paper or pdf or similar, don't try to listen.

Historia
With dazzling wit and astonishing insight, Bill Bryson - the acclaimed author of The Lost Continent - brilliantly explores the remarkable history, eccentricities, resilience, and sheer fun of the English language. From the first descent of the larynx into the throat (why you can talk but your dog can't) to the fine lost art of swearing, Bryson tells the fascinating, often uproarious story of an inadequate, second-rate tongue of peasants that developed into one of the world's largest growth industries.

Historia
We’ve long understood black holes to be the points at which the universe as we know it comes to an end. Often billions of times more massive than the Sun, they lurk in the inner sanctum of almost every galaxy of stars in the universe. Recent research, however, has led to a cascade of new discoveries that have revealed an entirely different side to black holes. As the astrophysicist Caleb Scharf reveals in Gravity’s Engines, these chasms in space-time don’t just vacuum up everything that comes near them; they also spit out huge beams and clouds of matter.

Black holes a quite heavy
Revisado: 01-07-18
A book about black holes by a scientist working with black holes, narrated by the said scientist. I was expecting interesting and inspired book. Instead .. everything felt lukewarm.
Narration sounded bit like the narrator was somewhat fed of the subject. Also, I don't know if the problem was in the recording or somewhere else, but I had hard times keeping focused on the book.
Subject itself was interesting, and I think I learned something new. But it all felt a bit drag. Might work better as paper book, but if you find the subject interesting then this may be worth of the try.

Not the meaning of cosmos I expected
Revisado: 12-10-17
When buying a book with title "Cosmos" by an astronomer, I expect to read (hear) about the cosmos in astronomical sense. Instead, most of this book is more about 'inner cosmologies', with random story about cavemen and this and that.

Awful reader, fun book
Revisado: 12-28-15
I had to really fight to stand the reader's intonation. It was like listening to somebody read a phone catalog. But the book itself was fun to listen. I enjoyed the writers take on fantasy literature stereotypes, and somewhat surprising twists in plot. I hope there is a sequel, will listen to that too... even if the reader is the same.

This might be a good book, if not the reader. At least the performance sounds like he was in speed reading contest, consisting of words he does not understand. Avoid this version of this book.

Einstein's Relativity and the Quantum Revolution: Modern Physics for Non-Scientists, 2nd Edition

Historia
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

Great stuff - but not good audio book.
Revisado: 08-19-14
I had some difficulties with this book, as the lecturer probably uses lots of pictures and illustrations. "As you see here..", "In the picture...", "Here we have clock A..." Fortunately the lecturer has so clear style in presentation, that it is possible to follow through examples without the illustrations.
AND where are the illustrations? As I have bought a book that uses illustrations, I would expect them to be visible. Can't at least find them in the Audible pages.
I would guess this would be good video lecture to follow. As audiobook .. leaves lots of room for improvement. As general book about theory of Relativity and Quantum physics, quite nice.

Would you like to know how the universe works? Scientists have been asking that question for a long time and have found that many of the answers can be found in the study of particle physics, the field that focuses on those impossibly tiny particles with unbelievably strange names - the hadrons and leptons, baryons and mesons, muons and gluons - so mystifying to the rest of us.

Excellent introduction for a non-physicists
Revisado: 04-10-14
I would recommend this to anybody who is interested in fundamental parts of our universe. Very clear presentation, easy to follow, and seems at least to me to cover the subject very well.
I have no interest to dwell into the mathematics of particle physics, and the aim of the series of lectures is indeed to deliver as comprehensive overview of particle physics to a listener just like me.
Very clear presentation, and I would like to listen to more material of this subject produced with such clarity and attention to delivery. Excellent!

Bad reader, bad audiobook
Revisado: 02-26-14
What did you like best about Why Does E=MC2 and Why Should We Care? What did you like least?
Very interesting book, well written about hard-to-grasp subject.
What didn’t you like about Jeff Forshaw’s performance?
I am afraid this might be an accent thing, but the reader has tendency to Emphasis every Other word WithOut any Relation To Context. Also, he avoids vowels, for example word "unimaginable" becomes "'nmginble". This makes listening to at least this book tiresome experience.
Any additional comments?
There probably are many explaining illustrations in this book - which are not available when you are listening in a car.
