Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett faces two different kinds of raging beasts—one animal, one human—in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C. J. Box. A rogue grizzly bear has gone on a rampage—killing, among others, the potential fiancé of Joe’s daughter. At the same time, Dallas Cates, whom Joe helped lock up years ago, is released from prison with a special list tattooed on his skin. He wants revenge on the people who sent him away: the six people he blames for the deaths of his entire family and the loss of his reputation and property.

Preposterous Plot twist ruins a potentially good story. An insult to the reader.
Revisado: 12-26-24
In chapter 7 a man gets killed in a scenario that could never EVER happen. I have been an avid reader of CJ Box but this was a bridge too far-- an insult to the reader.I did something I almost never do in my average 100 books per year -- I stopped it and will go no further. Where the hell were the editors that they let this get through?

A wild story, totally original, could not stop listening.
Revisado: 12-24-24
Their narrator for the Longmire series is truly the single best representation of a character I have ever heard and I listen to at least 50 or 60 books every year. Remarkable, indeed. My only criticism is that it seemed like Walt missed several opportunities to just shoot the damn antagonist!

This is right up there with my favorite Longmire books ever and I have read them all. A fantastic story with a lot of emotion. This narrator is probably the single best I've ever listened to in terms of capturing the affects and feelings of the main character. Just could not be better. Highly recommend recommended.

The New York Times best-selling author of Viper Pilot and retired USAF F-16 legend Dan Hampton offers the first comprehensive popular history of combat aviation - a unique, entertaining, and action-packed look at the aces of the air and their machines, from the Red Baron and his triplane in World War I to today's technologically expert flying warriors in supersonic jets.

Generally good with one glaring omission
Revisado: 11-03-24
This was very well done overall, but two things kept me from giving it five stars and had me tempted to go to three. One was a little too much time spent on the politics leading up to each war, during the war, and other issues not tightest directly to actual fighters in combat. I guess a lot of people don't know all that history so it's good for them, but I think so many interested in reading a fighter book already knew it. The second was compared to the coverage of World War I, Korea and the Gull wars, World War II fighters, and their pilots are not covered in depth, with few exceptions. Both the American pilotsPacific and European theaters got short shrift, whereas German, Russian, and Japanese pilots were covered more thoroughly. I would still recommend the book.

Historia
Sure to rank as one of the greatest aviation memoirs ever written, Viper Pilot is an Air Force legend's thrilling eyewitness account of modern air warfare. From 1986 to 2006, Lt. Col. Dan Hampton was a leading member of the Wild Weasels, the elite Air Force fighter squadrons whose mission is recognized as the most dangerous job in modern air combat. Weasels are the first planes sent into a war zone, flying deep behind enemy lines purposely seeking to draw fire from surface-to-air missiles and artillery. They must skillfully evade being shot down - and then return to destroy the threats, thereby making the skies safe for everyone else to follow.

none of us who were never fighter pilots can have a real clue what it's like. But as a private pilot for 40+years, this did give me a glimpse into that world that most all of us have at least fantasized about. The detail is incredible.

Just a great yarn in a three book series
Revisado: 07-26-24
All three in these books of the series were great stories with a lot of imagination and a lot of things to make you think about what would happen if similar things happened in our world today. The second book, the conquest. Did start out pretty slow and took some time to get going. But once it did maybe a quarter of the way through it was nonstop for the rest of the books. All three books in the series are well written and just fun. Also an excellent performance..

Cops can make mistakes, even when they're not rookies. Deeply traumatized by a shooting incident, Cass Raines resigned from the Chicago PD, leaving one less female African-American on the force. Now she's the head of a one-woman private investigation agency. She also plays chess with the only father figure she's ever known, Father Ray Heaton. When Father Ray asks Cass to look into a recent spate of vandalism at his church, she readily agrees to handle the case. But only hours later she's horrified to discover his murdered body in the church confessional, a dead gangbanger sprawled out nearby.

I almost have up a few times as the story got bogged down, especially in the tedious, overly detailed fight scenes...then king passages where nothing much
Happened. Almosy devoid of Chicago "color"and that city has SOOOOOO much color to offer.
