Even though the point of this book was to simply astrophysics to make it understandable, most of it went way over my head. The stuff I could kinda grasp would break but brain. But all of that is exactly what I want from Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

It’s more Neil DeGrasse Tyson talking about the universe so there isn’t much to dislike. I definitely prefer when he talks about the cosmos and not modern day stuff. Although, he does use science to show to stupidity in much of the modern day wedge issue talking points. Almost to much centristisms but I guess he’s not really doing that and just providing scientific evidence why many people are thinking about things incorrectly.

High Republic mid.

Not very interesting. Some of my least favorite characters in The High Republic era. Definitely made for middle school kids and doesn’t go beyond that.

This is my first time truly reading the whole of this. I remember it was assigned in middle of high school, I don’t remember which, and I neglected to give it the attention it deserved. It’s obvious now why it’s in the curriculum and important for everyone to read early. Perfect seasonal story.

Holy shit that was awesome. It is infinitely impressive she was able to write about so many characters that so fluidity work together in such a short book. The contents make it feel much larger, but it was a breeze to get through. Also, being able to articulate existence through things such has pandemics or technological changes so soon after living through it wad brilliant.

Just an all timer that will stick with me.

I love Neil DeGrasse Tyson so much. This is me starting all of his books.

I remember being 8 and our teacher telling us Pluto was no longer a plant, it broke my brain I couldn’t understand it. But excluding children, the public getting worked up about the new designation and being unwilling to accept the new science says a lot.

Shines a light on what is now the mythology of Jack the Ripper and doesn’t fetishize the murders but instead talks about the women and their lifestyles that forced them into the positions where they ended up. Also sneakily a very detailed look into how different types of women were forced to live in the Victorian era.

Devastating like every couple pages tbh. Doesn’t give the information you want but gives the small details that makes it great. Felt cold.

Bomb

Got better and better as I listened. Audiobook seemed a little over produced but makes sense because it was planned as an audiobook, not a book. Haywood Hansel and The Bomber Mafia were clearly a good thing to come from the war. Curtis LeMay was the opposite and a sadistic fuck that burned down Japan.
