Not bad; not great. A good premise made boring by the annoying, whining central character.

This is a sci-fi military novel. Set in the future, the drones are limited in capability and function. Nobody ever heard of mortars apparently. The battle scene is a camp surrounded by tall grass, no one thought to cut it or set mines, trip wires or sensors. Air support didn’t exist. Rather strange for a futuristic novel.

This seems to be the middle of at least a trilogy. I am not sure where it was supposed to begin. The ending was abrupt and resolved nothing. I’m really not sure why this was written.

The plot was good, though quite unbelievable. The author had you rooting against the bad guys. The technical descriptions were way too unnecessary - like the author was trying to make his minimum in words. That said, the booked was marred by the performance. The narrator seemed to be channeling William Shatner in ... his del...iveryandwas...diffi..cult to...follow at...times.

Although you may confuse the hero with Superman, this is a solid entry for the Gray Man series.

Rather than the anecdotal tales of a top Hollywood actor, this book was consumed by Arkin's belief in mysticism, miracles, gurus and other nonsense. If that what you're looking for, it's for you. If you're looking for a fun read, this is not it. The author is just another Hollywood star with strange beliefs.

The book had a lot of instances that we’re not truly Jack Reacher . He seem to make errors. Also, the beatings he took seemed not to affect him five minutes later while others would’ve been hospitalized. Even for Reacher, this was not very believable.

Daniel Silva is one of those consistently excellent writers, not resting on his laurels and turning out similar novels with different names and places. This book is another masterpiece of intrigue. A great read!

What would have made The Fix better?

A re-write with a different plot, narrators and a different author. Other than that, it was a piece of trash.

What could David Baldacci have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Thrown it in the garbage.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Did they ever! Kyf Brewer has the cadence and delivery of a "Peanuts" TV character. Orlagh Cassidy is not good at accents/dialects, nor with her delivery. Together, they were distractingly horrible.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Fix?

All of it. The plot was unbelievably transparent. You knew what the twists were 5 minutes before it struck the "brilliant" characters. What was a bad book turned dreadful in the last 45 minutes. The melodrama was entirely orchestrated seemingly by a fifth-grader. "Let's put in a dozen characters with no believability." The luckiest character was the dying little boy who won't be returning in a future book.

Any additional comments?

I have not written a review before this. This book was so dreadful, I hope the reviews warns off readers. I wasted a lot of time listening to this dreck.

As most authors become successful, their books seem to go downhill rapidly. They seem to be the same old plot over and over again. This particular book has a great plot, and was a treasure to read.
