Historia
One afternoon in November 1975, ten-year-old Miranda Larkin comes home from school to find her house eerily quiet. Her mother is missing. Nothing else is out of place. There is no sign of struggle. Her mom’s pocketbook remains in the front hall, in its usual spot. So begins a mystery that will span a lifetime. What happened to Jane Larkin? Investigators suspect Jane’s husband. A criminal defense attorney, Dan Larkin would surely be an expert in outfoxing the police.

Really enjoyed but clearly written by a man
Revisado: 04-23-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great story and interesting characters. What bothered me as I listened was that it seems to me no women actually edited or read this book before release. Why? A mom with three kids at home disappears and the narcissist, high powered lawyer dad is left with the kids in the 1970s. Who did all the cooking, cleaning, grocery shipping, caring of kids, etc once mom disappeared? No way this type of boomer exec dad would have done any of it. There is an aunt who steps in to help but that doesn’t explain it. Only a male writer, surrounded by male editors, would have thought it realistic to have the household run by itself in this kind of situation. There were a few other items that I won’t list, so as not to ruin the end, that also felt as if no women looked at this book before it was published. Great writing, story, characters. Would have been better if someone involved in the book valued the work stay-at-home moms do as it would have made the story easier to absorb.

Historia
When a notorious millionaire banker hangs himself, his death attracts no sympathy. But the legacy of a lifetime of selfishness is widespread, and the carnage most acute among those he ought to be protecting: his family. Meanwhile, in a wealthy suburb of Glasgow, a young woman is found savagely murdered. The community is stunned by what appears to be a vicious, random attack.

This is great book.I was interested in and sympathized with all of the characters and they all felt like people I know or have met. Even though I have never lived in Scotland it felt so real to me. It’s a fascinating story and I enjoyed every minute of it.
