Mainly soft porn that unexpectedly turns into a morality tale. Not really what I would have expected from reading the description.

In this unique short story, a couple who died suddenly in their 50s recounts their use of Bounty paper towels and their sudden switch to a bargain brand near the end of their lives. Historia
In his own words, real life American Gangster Frank Lucas recounts his life as the former heroin dealer and organized crime boss who ran Harlem during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Determined to break the Italian mafia’s monopoly over drug smuggling in New York, Frank cut out middlemen and began smuggling heroin into the United States directly from his source in Vietnam using the coffins of dead American soldiers.

interesting story by/of a revolting nan
Revisado: 03-01-20
interesting story and great narration. What got in the way of my completely being able to lose myself in the story was the authors character. He is a misogynist and a sociopath. His thin apologies at the end of the book to the victims of the heroin trade, and his "do as I say, not as I did" statements left me cold.

Historia
Welcome to the most tumultuous summer of the 20th century. It's 1969, and for the Levin family, the times they are a-changing. Every year, the children have looked forward to spending the summer at their grandmother's historic home in downtown Nantucket. But like so much else in America, nothing is the same.

Overly Sentimental
Revisado: 09-17-19
Starts off as a perfectly good summer read, like the authors other books.
At about 2/3 of the way through, however, it gets sentimental, cloying, and characters start talking like they've come out of a novel from the Victorian Era. I don't know what the author was thinking, or why the editor didn't insist on changes.

Historia
Tom Wolfe's best-selling modern classic tells the story of Sherman McCoy, an elite Wall Street bond trader who has it all: wealth, power, prestige, a Park Avenue apartment, a beautiful wife, and an even more beautiful mistress - until one wrong turn sends Sherman spiraling downward into a humiliating fall from grace. A car accident in the Bronx involving Sherman, his girlfriend, and two young lower-class Black men sets a match to the incendiary racial and social tensions of 1980s New York City.
