Historia
Visiting her family's South Carolina estate, socialite Gray Godfrey wakes from a night out to an empty bed. Her husband, Paul, is gone, and a thrashing hangover has wiped her memory clean. At first, she's relieved for the break from her tumultuous marriage; perhaps Paul just needed some space. But when his car is found abandoned on the highway, Gray must face the truth: Paul is gone. And Gray may not want him found. Her life is unraveling. When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help.

Great Mystery
Revisado: 01-13-22
I chose this novel because I love Bahni Turpin as a narrator. I especially love this narration because having two narrators gives the feeling of multiple perspectives. This novel is a great mystery because it takes many twists and turns. You think you may have solved the mystery from the beginning, but read on.

The Quinns - all different skin shades, all with unknown fathers - live with their charismatic, beautiful, and tyrannical mother, Rozelle, in poverty on the fringes of a Georgia town where Jim Crow rules. Rozelle's children live in fear of her mood swings and her violence, but they are devoted to her. Rozelle pulls her children out of school when they are 12 years old so that they can help support her by going to work.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 12-01-21
Excellent narration by Bahni Turpin held my interest in this book. Never have I read a book or watched a movie where I took such a disliking to a character as Rozelle Quinn. I shudder to think that anyone has had to bear the upbringing and abuse of such a mother. I kept thinking that the author would move along from the the dysfunction of the Quinn family to a brighter storyline. I’m sorry that Ms. Phillips passed before finishing her second book and sharing the future of Tangy. All in all, I did enjoy the book.

Nice Short Story
Revisado: 02-21-21
This was a short story about a woman who discovers that her husband had been cheating on her only after he had been involved in a serious car accident. I liked that there were sound effects added to the narrative making it seem more like a performance instead of just narration.

Historia
This recently rediscovered and critically acclaimed 1937 novel tells the story of Janie Crawford, a long-legged, articulate, and fiercely independent African-American woman of the 1930s. Janie's quest for identity includes three marriages and a return to her roots. Despite her struggles, Janie never defines herself by regret, fear, or unrealistic dreams, and refuses to be anything but her own person.

Enthralling
Revisado: 01-29-21
Even though I had read this book many years ago, I decided to “read” it again particularly because it was narrated by Ruby Dee. I loved the imagery that Ms. Hurston wove into the story. Ms. Ruby Dee did an outstanding job bringing each of the characters to life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was sorry for it to come to an end.
