Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

As a fan, I can’t believe I was unaware of all the times I missed seeing Eric live. I now realize I am the less for it. This is one great book, very well delivered, I laughed constantly , nudge nudge, wink wink!

Spectacular
Revisado: 08-11-17
George Guidall was magnificent. He did all the hard work here. It was very easy for me to sit back, relax, imagine and enjoy. I had always heard that this was a classic, but to experience a book so rich (1605) and be able to relate and laugh throughout was a surprise to me. I'm so glad I chose this book. True, it's long, but it was worth every moment. Five stars.

Very informative. At the same time, an enjoyable listen. Packed with tons of interesting facts I wish I could remember details longer. May have to play chapters again in the future. I would enjoy that, as I did this book.

Splendid.
Revisado: 07-21-16
I have listened to two of these Great Courses by Professor Gregory in a row. First was a "History of Science". I loved both. From the ideal college I never went to. Glad learning can take place way after college and the subject matter was always explained in a way that didn't leave me in the dust.

Worth listening from start to finish
Revisado: 07-08-16
Not a scientist in any respect, I loved these lectures. What I could understand was fascinating and what I couldn't was worth exposing myself to. I sometimes listen at faster speeds-- to fiction. But this book had me listening at normal all the time-- which turned out to be very rewarding. I am very glad I found this book!

Years ago I read this book. Then years ago (1970?) I saw the movie. And now I just listened to this terrific reading. It is a great rendition and I'm glad I did. Funny, poignant, and very well-enacted. Brings me back to a lot of "truths" I never want to forget.

On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

... I still found the story of their lives compelling throughout. Growing up, I always wondered about Wilbur and Orville and relished these tales here. It could have gone on forever. I so much enjoyed following their progress. David McCullough was the perfect voice to read his own Nobel. Inspiring!
