Historia
In a shabby house, on a shabby street, in the new capital of Madrid, Luzia Cotado uses scraps of magic to get through her days of endless toil as a scullion. But when her scheming mistress discovers the lump of a servant cowering in the kitchen is actually hiding a talent for little miracles, she demands Luzia use those gifts to improve the family's social position.

disappointed
Revisado: 05-09-24
I thought this book was going to be good but as it progressed there was no character development. The characters were flat and one dimensional. Overall, as a historical fiction novel it fell short with actually going into the Spanish inquisition. Big disappointment as a Bardugo fan myself.

the performance was great, however, for medusa this was an in justice because her character was so weak. I would have liked her and other characters to have more depth. more to her story that was intriguing. fell flat

Not what I Expected
Revisado: 09-01-23
I couldn't make it to the end. I was thrown into the middle of a world I knew nothing about. Then thrown into another world I knew nothing about. As the book progressed, I thought there would be world building, unfortunately not. The writing didn't just lack world building but depth of characters as well. Nothing made me want to finish this book. I was so excited but sadly disappointed. The narrator was okay but could've been better.

Historia
In 1929 Stalin launched his policy of agricultural collectivization - in effect a second Russian Revolution - which forced millions of peasants off their land and onto collective farms. The result was a catastrophic famine, the most lethal in European history. At least five million people died between 1931 and 1933 in the USSR. But instead of sending relief, the Soviet state made use of the catastrophe to rid itself of a political problem.

Nice but like paperback better
Revisado: 05-24-23
I started this book out on audio then bought the paperback. This is a great book but hard to get into on audio. I just needed to reread and absorb the content more than the audio was doing for me. I still recommend this book, especially in a time when history is needed.

Absolutely Love
Revisado: 03-30-23
I absolutely loved this book. I really liked the narrator and felt her connected to the story, she wasn't boring, read the story well. Although I don't share the same sentiment about a child in the womb as the author I knew her point and where she was going. I liked how the story connected all the characters. Each character had a great story. Overall, this is an excellent book. I highly recommend this book.

Great Book
Revisado: 03-16-23
I loved this book, however, the author should not have narrated it. The main character is a 17 year old girl, where as the author is an old woman. I just couldn't get the image of an old lady playing the main character and not a 17 year old girl. Not to mention the narrator pronounced several words incorrectly. I did like the story, cried at the ending and if I had to do it again I would read this instead of listening.

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

started strong, ended weak
Revisado: 09-16-22
I liked the book at first, however, there are several trigger warnings, abuse, abuse against women, child prostitution, pedophilia, death, murder, rape, human trafficking, and more.
I'm surprised I finished this book with so many triggers. Does give a sense of how women were treated in history. Goes into a lot of detail of sexual treatment which I didn't like. The performance was amazing on audio. I expected it to finish a lot differently and stronger.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that triggers with sex abuse. I'm rating it two stars.

Waste of a Credit
Revisado: 09-06-22
This book is boring and started off like Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire. Only instead of one vampire telling the story there are two vampires telling their stories. I was like, really how original to piggy back a vampire novel. Then as the male vampire story was told to the reporter/journalist it was taking me everything not to fall asleep, like a textbook. I couldn't make heads or tails of the characters they were introduced so fast and without an introduction. The author is the narrator and that is very problematic because the author has a bit of a lisp or just doesn't pronounce things correctly. This is just a waste of a credit. This is not a good vampire novel and I love vampires and gothic novels. Waste

Not my Cup of Tea
Revisado: 09-05-22
I listened to this because I wanted to read the physical book to my daughter. Overall, the narrator sound like she has a stuffy nose cold, which is annoying. The story itself was boring, I don't think my daughter will like it. I do like how the author includes Pan, which as a pagan that was a plus.
