Historia
A Gentleman in Moscow recounts the story of Count Alexander Rostov. In 1922, on the heels of the Russian Revolution, the count is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal and sentenced to permanent house arrest in Moscow's grand Hotel Metropol. In something of a literary feat, as the count's story progresses over three decades, the walls of the Metropol seem to expand, rather than close in around readers.

Great companion to the book!!
Revisado: 01-26-19
“A Gentleman in Moscow” is the kind of story that will be read by generations to come. This Audible interview with the author, Amor Towles, illuminates several compelling points from the text and brings the author himself to life in a way that can do be done through audio.
I highly recommend listening to this talk after you have read the book, when you will probably find yourself longing for more connections to this masterful story!!

Historia
A young woman is in love with a successful surgeon, a man torn between his love for her and his incorrigible womanizing. His mistress, a free-spirited artist, lives her life as a series of betrayals—while her other lover, earnest, faithful, and good, stands to lose everything because of his noble qualities. In a world where lives are shaped by irrevocable choices and fortuitous events, and everything occurs but once, existence seems to lose its substance, its weight. Hence we feel “the unbearable lightness of being."

A story that examines life and its evolving meanings...
Revisado: 01-23-18
I had to read this story with a pencil in my hand the entire time... there were so many poignant and thought-provoking passages... I want to fill a jar with each and every kernel of wisdom nestled within these pages. Tereza and Tomas are my favorite kinds of characters; vulnerable, flawed, and striving for that “Es muss sein” that makes our lives worth living... This is a book I will return to again and again not only for its haunting story but mainly for the reflections on our own relationships that this story allows us to explore through these characters.

Historia
Caroline Jane Knight is the last of the Austen Knight family to grow up at Chawton House, the 16th-century English manor house on the ancestral estate where Jane Austen lived and wrote. Caroline ate at the same dining table, read in the same library, explored the same country lanes and shared the same dreams of independence as Jane Austen did.

Go back to Chawton w/Jane Austen & Caroline Knight
Revisado: 07-13-17
If you could sum up Jane & Me: My Austen Heritage in three words, what would they be?
Heartfelt, emotive, and unique.
What other book might you compare Jane & Me: My Austen Heritage to and why?
Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley because they both connect stories of Jane's time period to the places that she lived in.
Have you listened to any of Alison Larkin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first audiobook experience listening to Alison Larkin and she was wonderful; upbeat and expressive in all the right places!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Return to the Great House at Chawton and experience for yourself how this magnificent estate played such a significant role in shaping Jane Austen's legacy as an author and her descendants' lives, as told from the perspective of her fifth great niece, Caroline Jane Knight.
Any additional comments?
I think this book is such an important contribution to the legacy of Jane Austen and the Knight family, who played such an important role in her life. Readers will learn how history really does stand still in numerous ways when your family has lived in the same house for over four centuries.

There's nothing better than listening to Colin Firth's narration of this sorrowful reflection ...
Revisado: 07-23-15
This was a heartbreaking and poignant story of a man who is grieving the numerous losses of his former lover. The story offers us an inside perch into his sorrows, his struggles and his attempts to reconcile and understand the roles that God plays in our lives. How fascinating that we all walk this Earth together and yet we all follow such dissimilar paths towards happiness and peace as we attempt to create what can only be for each of us, an existence of personal meaning and salvation... I won't forget the grief and the lessons endured through this story as I travel the path of my own life!

Good story but the narration is disturbing...
Revisado: 06-29-15
The narrator's voice drove me crazy. I'm sure if Colin Firth read this book, it would be wonderful!!! But he didn't and the terrible voice made me quit the book once for several weeks before going back to it...
I'm glad I did, as the story became more interesting and the last several chapters were sweet peeks into the Darcys' lives after the wedding...
I have bought the audiobook version of this sequel because it's a nicely paced book for listening to while I drive, cook and clean... I am looking forward to it!!

Though Darcy struggles privately with his desire for Elizabeth Bennet, he must still fulfill his roles as landlord, master, brother, and friend. In Book Two, the "silent time" of Austen's novel, Fitzwilliam Darcy and his personal world emerge as he deals with his servants, including a valet with aspirations of sartorial triumph.

The only way I could get into this series...
Revisado: 05-03-15
I tried to read these books for a long time. I bought ebook copies and paperback copies and I just couldn't get into the series. I figured my last chance to listen to the audiobook and boy am I glad that I did! While it's not the most exciting or like twisting story ever written, it is the Darcy side of P&P; therefore, I just had to know what it was all about.
The story kept me listening for more. Within 6 days I was done with the book and glad I took the time to do do. I did not suffer from the complaints of disliking the narrator. I felt that the time passed nicely while listening to this book was done primarily as a pleasure.
