A Must Read
Revisado: 02-22-22
I have loved all three volumes of this stunning series and will read all of them again and use them for references. Highlighting key personalities and developing their character within the context of their time period makes the writing personal, intimated and riveting.

Bernard Cornwell, the New York Times best-selling "reigning king of historical fiction" (USA Today), tackles his most thrilling, rich, and enthralling subject yet - the heroic tale of Agincourt. The epic battle immortalized by William Shakespeare in his classic Henry V is the background for this breathtaking tale of heroism, love, devotion, and duty from the legendary author of the Richard Sharpe novels and the Saxon Tales.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

I Could Not Stop Listening
Revisado: 05-28-21
An Excellent Listen...LOVE the reader. She is completely captivating and one in spirit with the writing. There is so much to learn about pre- war England in this book and the later books. If I was still teaching Western Civ, I would suggest these series for summer reading for a history class. It would give depth, context and a sense of events for a history student of any age. Bravo, Jacqueline Winspear and Maisie, you have done it, again! xo

A Stunning Read
Revisado: 05-27-21
Each book in the Maisie Dobbs series is a little more complex. When I got to the end of Book 15, it felt like the most satisfying read, complete and satisfying. There is no hanging thread. Everything is woven back through the plot....and yet, What is next! Maisie, don't leave me! I am in love with this series, the cultural history, the plot, the characters. I really do thing this series needs to be produced on film through the PBS and Masterpiece. It is all so visceral and visual...Do it, Maisie! xo

It’s not every day that you’re summoned to the Italian countryside on business, so when archaeologist Angelo Morelli asks for Ruth Galloway’s help identifying bones found in the tiny hilltop town of Fontana Liri, she jumps at the chance to go, bringing her daughter along with her for a working vacation. Upon arriving, she begins to hear murmurs of Fontana Liri’s strong resistance movement during World War II and senses the townspeople are dancing around a deeply buried secret. But how could that be connected to the ancient remains she’s been studying?

Revisado: 05-01-21
I love the characters in the this series. I can not help myself! Griffiths doesn't always satisfy in every single book but she ties up so many loose ends in, The Dark Angel. Whilst touching on current social problems of our era, she explores human nature from WWII, to Fascism, to present day Immigration, to racism encapsulated in a wonderful, full bodied plot that explores our changing moral compass and our shared human condition...don't miss it. It was a delightful read!

I love every moment of this book. The ancient agricultural customs, feats days to mark the year, reading of the stars, the reference to time, the characterizations filled up my heart once more. It is an all time favorite.

Breathless
Revisado: 03-24-21
After living in Austrian and in Italy for many years, I felt that I had read a fair amount of texts on the subject of the Final Solution. Nevertheless, this book left me breathless. The primary source material, the ability of the author to tell the story from many points of vuew and in many voices, was riveting. This is a must read book, told and read in the most profound way. It should on every school 20th century syllabus. I can not wait to read East West Street.
