Historia
In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive.

Very Slow to Start
Revisado: 03-01-18
I understand the author may setting the scene for future books but thus took far too long to get started. Then when it did start it was almost finished.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

It's Sci Fi Jim, but not as we know it.
Revisado: 09-06-15
Would you listen to The Martian again? Why?
Yes, but not for a long time. The outcome is the key. It kept me listening to the end.
What other book might you compare The Martian to and why?
Don't know, Agatha Christie meets Star Trek? The narrator would do Phillip Marlowe justice, but fits right into this character.
Which scene was your favorite?
The end... ... of course.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Most emotions are covered in this book, laugh cry whimsical serious.

Historia
A breakneck race against time…and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Pilgrim.

A huge book you need to invest the time
Revisado: 08-01-15
Would you listen to I Am Pilgrim again? Why?
Yes, it is too big to take in in one reading. The story has many facets & I will need to hear it again to appreciate it fully.
What did you like best about this story?
Fast paced, a lot of detail, but I didn't feel bogged down in the detail.
Which scene was your favorite?
Too many to list here
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it is far too big for that.
Any additional comments?
Buy it for that next long haul flight.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

OK if you're into this.
Revisado: 08-01-15
Would you listen to Unbroken again? Why?
Yes, because it is a real story, war is a horrific thing. It needs to be remembered & ANZAC Day, Veteran's Day Armistice Day become too festive (IMO). Books like this tell it like it was. There is no romanticizing of the ideals, it was awful, it should never be repeated, but it will be.
What did you like best about this story?
Honest, sometimes brutal.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes when the subject met his tormentor again
Any additional comments?
Don't buy this expecting a romantic war epic. It is hard work, but well worth listening to.

Historia
The ultimate pop quest. Ninety-five thousand hopefuls. Three judges. Just one winner. And that’s Calvin Simms, the genius behind the show. Calvin always wins because Calvin writes the rules. But this year, as he sits smugly in judgement upon the mingers, clingers and blingers whom he has pre-selected in his carefully scripted ‘search’ for a star, he has no idea that the rules are changing.
