Historia
In this extraordinary best seller, James Hillman presents a brilliant vision of our selves, and an exciting approach to the mystery at the center of every life that asks, “What is it, in my heart, that I must do, be, and have? And why?” Drawing on the biographies of figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mohandas K. Gandhi, Hillman argues that character is fate, that there is more to each individual than can be explained by genetics and environment. The result is a reasoned and powerful road map to understanding our true nature and discovering an eye-opening array of choices.

Historia
An instant best seller that is poised to become a classic, Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer's yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes". He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the author's own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

Interesting facts
Revisado: 02-18-24
The presupposition of memory is challenged in the book and it delivers new philosophical questions as to what humans might be. For myself it's more than memory, I appreciate the practical explanation. The most important thing about memory is sharing experiences with others.

Historia
We see our age as the greatest in human history, filled with seemingly unending originality. Yet such dynamism is not a necessary characteristic of great eras. Among the most long-lasting and stable civilizations was that of medieval Europe. There stasis was achieved, and with it a stability that permitted the development of structured thought and intellectual embellishment of unparalleled degree.

Subject is skewed by strong opinions
Revisado: 09-29-23
The most helpful 10 minutes were in the timeline at the end of the audiobook. However, I’ll never get those first 80 minutes back while I listened to arrogantly stated conjecture on how Aquinas served an archaic institution bent on biased self defense. The writer is deeply embedded in his own ego if he thinks we’re making progress without God or the Church. Progress towards what? There’s nothing without faith. The subject understood this in his faith and reason. The author is a typical apostate. The answer is God. Science is u-turning from hardline materialism. We’ll all follow suit when we’re close to death. Trust me.

My favorite part is the ending. It’s worth the epic effort to capture the essence of meaning the author eloquently describes his characters roles and existential struggles.

Merging Taoist philosophy, Hindu principles, and Confucianism along with scientific findings, Jason Gregory outlines the practice of wu-wei as a vehicle to realize our innate freedom, revealing that when we release our ego and allow life to unfold as it will, we align ourselves more closely with our goals and cultivate skill and mastery along the way. Equating "being in the zone" with a stillness of the mind, Gregory shares meditation practices coupled with yoga exercises from Patanjali that allow you to approach life with a mastery of acceptance.

Insoluble fiber
Revisado: 05-20-21
I loved this book. I would have rated it higher for being more concise and way less uhms and ahhs. Too much filler, combined with additional facts made it feel like I was consuming too much fiber and extra chaff. This caused me to lecture my friends and family twice as much as I normally would and ahh causing me to be full of s#*! Because, it was too much to remember/recite. Small bite size pieces would have been nice.

Historia
At 74, Yalom has penned a book that is the climax of his lifework, focusing on the universal human issues of mortality and death. He suggests that what he calls the "awakening experience" can help us acknowledge, accept, and utilize our fear of death in a very positive manner. Such an awakening experience can be as simple as a dream, or quick as a sudden insight. It is often a loss, a trauma, or just plain aging that can prompt an awakening experience that is a turning point for a more meaningful life.

What a shame!
Revisado: 11-08-20
We have brought enough people back from the dead to know definitively that consciousness does survive outside of excuses for delusions. There have been studies and agreements that can concur the consistency of people’s reports of an afterlife. There’s your science. He’s made a huge mistake in that he undermines truth and what people really want, to care for their souls. He’s built his own dogma he hold onto just as zealously as he claims believers do. I feel sorry for his patience who came to him for existential help, awful shame.

Overreacting and exaggerated but helpful
Revisado: 08-09-20
A story about a self professed normal guy who had it ruff and made a hero’s journey. That’s what I got out of his story and I am sure he believes that but from what I heard is that he had every advantage with loving parents who put him through Ivy League law school and a woman who didn’t rip out his heart because he wanted to dream. Get those things first before attempting what he accomplished and anyone can fill their life’s schedule with success stories. He failed to comment on how it was the environment that enabled his success not his self determination but his privileged life. It was also boring and extremely trite. I did rate it better to not be a completely negative person ***.

Science is fact.
Revisado: 03-16-18
There is a large block of science which contest Darwinism. There were so many contradictions in this story of science versus religion that it was hard for me to follow, that is because I have studied. So personally, it was hard for me to get through the story and enjoy the fiction, so many false and bold claims about evolution being a fact. This book is better suited for another universe! It is a Short-sighted and long-winded rant about obvious and superficial disparities between people who claim to be intelligent atheists and ignorant superstitious believers. And Boring!
