Witchcraft? really?
Revisado: 09-26-23
started out strong, but my interest quickly fizzled as things just got more and more weird. I started having trouble caring about any of the characters. between blow jobs and Wiccan magic, it's all over the place and not in a good way. I couldn't stomach more than a couple hours and finally asked myself why I was even still listening. so I stopped.

YA fiction that reads like YA fiction
Revisado: 09-26-23
it started off strong, then just got more and more improbable. I realize this is for young adults, but come on, an 18yo assassin? none of the characters have much depth or are even very likeable.

Historia
Wren Blythe has long enjoyed being among the Northwoods, helping her father with programming at a youth camp. But when a little girl in the area goes missing, an all-out search ensues, reviving the decades-old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess, who still roams the woods. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coons cabin ruins and a rotting porcelain doll. But even more terrifying is seeing her name etched on the doll's foot like a sinister omen.

From the moment I entered Tea's world, I found myself completely immersed, and wanting more. I drank up the story like parched ground. I love the characters, the magic, the world building. I could not get enough of the story and I can hardly wait to start book 2.

it took an hour for the plot to progress 5 minutes
Revisado: 10-15-20
the entire book, especially the chapters about Molly, is like listening to someone tell a story who spends way too much time on unnecessary detail. "I remember this story, well I don't remember the whole story but I think it was about a war, I don't remember maybe it was WWII? anyway I know it's weird that I don't remember the whole story, or even most of the details. it's weird how these things come to you at the strangest times..."

Historia
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

I could not stop listening
Revisado: 09-06-20
I loved this book so much. it had me on the edge of my seat, rooting for Annis. I won't give too much away, but it is a beautiful story about friendship, love, and incredible forgiveness.
I loved how selfless Annis is even while she maintains her own independence and pursues her values. she does not put others down or act unkind to the young man her step mother wants her to marry. she takes into account others' feelings and needs.
Harriet is a strong, caring woman who only wants what is best for Annis. She plays a big role in Annis' efforts at independence and in helping her thwart her step mother's many schemes.
I loved this book so much. I laughed, i cried, i rejoiced. I would absolutely read it again.

more than I bargained for - in all the best ways
Revisado: 08-26-20
I could not put it down. it had everything I wanted and more. loved it.
I was continually torn between devouring it all at once and savoring it slowly. in the end I did a bit of both.
the twists and turns had me guessing and more than once i found myself on the edge of my seat. the author and narrator did a fabulous job of giving each character his or her own voice. and by the middle i was loving all 3 characters like they were my own friends. I cheered them on and cried with them and felt anguish and rage and joy.
few books have done that for me before.

Historia
Dr. Temperance Brennan, Forensic Anthropologist for the Province of Quebec, digs for a corpse where Sister Elisabeth Nicolet, dead for over a century and now a candidate for sainthood, should be lying in her grave. A strange, small coffin, buried in the recesses of a decaying church, holds the first clue to the cloistered nun's fate. The puzzle surrounding Sister Elisabeth Nicolet's life and death provides a welcome contrast to discoveries at a burning chalet, where scorched and twisted bodies await Tempe's professional expertise.
