As a physician, I use the principles of evolutionary medicine in my daily practice. I consider that this book is a must-read for all professionals who are interested in evolutionary biology.
By the way, Dr. Shubin still upholds the prevailing understanding of the origin of cancer cells, which attributes them to random DNA mutations. However, based on the compelling arguments presented in his book, it might be worth considering the perspectives of Dr. Thomas Seyfred (author of "Cancer as a Metabolic Disease") and Dr. Jason Fung (author of "The Cancer Code"). They argue that cancer cells result from mitochondrial dysfunction or damage caused by metabolic challenges such as poor diet, lack of exercise, and pollution. In this state, the cells behave like prokaryotic cells, relying on fermentative glycolysis to survive. This uncontrolled multiplication, evasion of the immune system, metastasis, and resistance to antitumoral drugs lead to similarities between the behavior of cancer cells and bacteria. It's fascinating to consider the idea that our cells possess genetic codes that enable them to mimic bacteria and become cancer cells, as suggested by the ideas of Shubin.

I am a physician specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with great interest in Evolutionary Medicine. I have listened many books about this topic, such as "Your Inner Fish (Neil Shubin)", "Sapiens (Y. N. Harari)", "Paleo Cardiologist (J. Wolfson)", "Paleo Manifesto ( J. Durant)", "Primal Fat Burner (N. Gedgaudas)", "Dancing with Darwin (S. Saltzman)", "Wired to Eat (Robb Wolf)", among others. Some very good, and others not really recommended. But if I have to choose one, I definitely would commend this one without any doubt. "The Story of the Human Body" has many exceptional insights about how and why we are suffering an epidemic of chronic illnesses. I have added to my vocabulary a new term developed in this book: "Mismatch Diseases". Great!

I loved this book. Great for people looking for a scientific approach of meditation and buddhism (secular). The practice section was also very helpful for me!

Great book, for those who knows Dr. Lustig background and work. Change depends on us, because there is too much money and misinformation involved... We can not rely on the Goverment, the Food or Drug Industry, the Health Services or the Media to improve own health. Word of mouth is the only way... Like recommending this fine book and the author's research and ideas... Let's make a chain!

Supplements, supplements, supplements!

Although this book had useful information, I hated the repetitive "take supplements" recommendation. To be healthy does not mean: "take supplements all your life". Also, the autor promoted "chiropractic" as a miraculously treatment (because his wife is a chiropractor) and he, as an osteopathic physician knew perfectly the limitations of this alternative treatment modality. Good concepts BUT "supplements" and "chiropractic as a miracle" made me feel upset about this book...
