Historia
Casting necromancy without ever learning how to isn't supposed to be possible. A starving orphan girl named Vita is somehow managing it anyway, and she's not sure if this is going to be the solution to her life's problems or a horrifying, spiraling mess of problems she can hardly conceive.

slow start, great finish
Revisado: 03-27-22
An hour or two in I wasn't sure this was going to be for me. It seemed like it was laying a lot of groundwork in a slow and somewhat perfunctory way. But once it finished and got into the meat of the story it was quite a fun ride that doesn't flinch from weighty, ethical issues. Plus the protagonist's offbeat bubbly personality stands out as unique in books like this. The performance itself was solid but the mic quality sounded below average which bothered me for about 30 minutes until I got used to it. Overall I recommend and I snagged the next one to keep listening.

Short but great
Revisado: 02-24-20
It's a retelling of Faust from the perspective of an admiring onlooker. The writing itself was absolutely excellent and the narrator does it credit. The only drawback is that it is fairly short. For better or worse, I got wrapped up in it and finished it in a single listen.

Historia
The Norfolk coast made for a perfect holiday - as long as the sun still shone. But when the rain came, the creatures left the shadows. Spectres from the past tortured James Hildebrand's mind. His blackest nightmares were crowded with malevolent, coiling images of decay. Then, suddenly, he knew the threat was real. The dead alone could not quench their hunger. And, for the living, the horrors that fed and multiplied in the darkness of the night became more terrible with the dawn.

Creepy Fun
Revisado: 02-24-20
The story follows a protagonist who is delightfully awful. More than just a creature feature it's a character study that let's you sit in the mind of a self-centered manipulator as he gets closer and closer to his comeuppance.
The worms themselves are creepy and made me a bit squeamish. They're a presence beneath the surface and serve as a metaphor for a supposedly idyllic Norfolk country side where below the surface everyone has a touch of evil.
it's worth giving this hidden gem a listen.

Journeying across a land where all magic, cultures, and wars are dictated by its cycles in nature, they uncover a plot that threatens to destroy everything they hold dear. A lot of fun, Nice performance
Revisado: 07-07-18
The novel is pretty good and the performance definitely helps bring it to life. I was slightly worried in the first few chapters that the pacing felt off, but it quickly picked up. The story takes place in a world where magic is done through concentrating on symbols and chaining them together into more and more complicated actions. A lot of the story follows the protagonist Faulk as he learns this magic first from a former friend who is seeking revenge, then from Yuweh who is a women from a religious devote people. The book is at it's most fun and compelling when Yuweh and Faulk are interacting and Faulk is experiencing the joy of learning new abilities.
A small not on the performance. The narrator is new to me, but his voice is really nice and he acts the characters well. I think that this is a book I enjoyed more in audiobook form than I would have written. I can definitely recommend this and hope the rest of the series makes it on here with the same narrator as it comes out.
