Fun, Innocent, Educational Animal Stories :)
Revisado: 03-11-25
My 4-year-old and 6-year-old love Mr. Jim's Kids Animal Stories! Mr. Jim does a great job presenting them. They are fun, sweet, and educational. The stories are not too scary, which is important to my kids, but definitely cliffhangers, where they are asking to listen to the next episode immediately. After listening to a lot of episodes, I have not found anything controversial (no mention of evolution, creation, sex/gender issues). The stories pertain to kids and kids' problems like being nervous before a big performance, a friend moving away, not listening to instructions, etc. Listeners learn about animal facts (often amazing ones!) in a fun way, usually with a moral to the story in addition. Thanks, Mr. Jim! These helped us through an epic road trip and we're still listening!

Fascinating story
Revisado: 08-26-23
This has been one of my favorite Christian fiction listens! The main focus is on the story (which includes mystery and intrigue) as opposed to the romance (which is still present).
I didn't care for the reading style of the narrator (her moody and unusual intonations were strange to me), but I was hooked because of the story and the setting (1920s NYC). In a way, the moody reading grew on me a bit to match the style and setting of the book in my mind, but it still sounded odd to me. Consider listening to the sample before you buy.
The historical period and Egyptian artifact information seem well-researched.
Christian beliefs are focused on most strongly at the end when the main character is finding emotional and spiritual healing. It feels a little sudden/surprising. Otherwise, they are only occasionally present in the book
Romance includes kissing and time alone together in an apartment (but no sexual innuendo besides rubbing potentially frostbitten feet/ankles with a promise to go no farther), and I appreciated that the descriptions were not steamy or overly-sensualized.
This would not be the best book for you if you have trouble with managing lots of characters as there is a decent cast of characters.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed it! I usually only listen to audiobooks when I'm doing chores, and I read printed books during my down time; but, with this book, I found myself lying down and just listening to this book during my free time too because I wanted to hear more! Thank you, Jocelyn Green!

Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time.

Bad language filled this book. Lots of f* words, using God's name in vain, and other swear words. Very disappointing, especially as another reviewer said the language was not bad.
A man and his girlfriend live together. No sex discussed.
The historical pirate descriptions could be gory, and the pirates drank, kept company with prostitutes, etc.
Overall, this book kept my attention, and I wanted to finish despite the foul language. There is quite a bit of waiting in the middle of the book where the men can't do any diving and there is a lot of interpersonal drama. It was annoying that this took up so much of the book. SPOILER ALERT! The end was fairly satisfying but wrapped up way too quickly once the wreck was discovered, which is the most exciting part of the book.

Historia
For 18 years Ed Viesturs pursued climbing's holy grail: to stand atop the world's 14 8,000-meter peaks, without the aid of bottled oxygen. But No Shortcuts to the Top is as much about the man who would become the first American to achieve that goal as it is about his stunning quest. As Viesturs recounts the stories of his most harrowing climbs, he reveals a man torn between the flat, safe world he and his loved ones share and the majestic and deadly places where only he can go.

I listened to about 1/3 of the book before deciding to stop. The stories are fascinating, and the reading/voice quality is pleasant to listen to, but I wish Mr. Viesturs had not put in the bad language and alluded to sex. He occasionally uses the f and s words in dialogue and alluded to having a sexual encounter with a fellow climber in the first third of the book.
As far as what other reviews addressed, I enjoyed how he explains his conservative mindset regarding climbing and I didn't feel that he came off annoyingly proud except when he would note who used bottled oxygen and who didn't to reach a summit (noting that he didn't but xyz people in his group did, and he lists them by name).
