I gave up at chapter 175. A lot of nothing about sick people. I gave up because I didn’t care what happened.

Narrator ruined it

I can’t handle how the narrator changes his voice every time he explains how someone reacts to what was said. I can’t focus on the story at all.

I read or listen to hundreds of books a year, and this is my top one so far this year. The rich detail, the connection of stories and the magic of nature are Elysian. and the narrators are fantastic. Bravo!

DNF because of narrator

I did not finish because of the narrator. It was very hard for me to get to the story when I was distracted by her modulating voice that made me adjust the volume and her slipping in and out of characters, so it was hard to know who was talking.I didn’t really get to understand the story because it was hard to hear and I paid more of attention to her voice voice then the story.

Can’t finish

I am an art lover and appreciator; however, this book is very hard to get through unless you are an art history student or working in a museum. There is just so much detail on each specific painting that it’s overwhelming and boring. The human stories didn’t grip me enough to get to the end. Easily half this book could be cut out. I do acknowledge and appreciate the immense amount of research that the author must’ve put into this.

Great narrator, intriguing story

Although I’m not a fan of dual timelines, this one worked pretty well. The SOE is always very interesting to me, and this historical fiction was compelling.

Awful narrator

The narrator fell in and out of accents and character so often it was painful to listen to. Story was OK, not great. Not this author’s best work.

Predictable and terrible narrator

I was hopeful at the beginning of this the narrator is terrible. I’ve read other books by this author, where the narrator was also terrible while at points, I thought the story was interesting. It was just overly dramatic and drawn out, and that was not helped by the narrator.

I loved this book!

A beautiful, well researched book that opened up new areas of exploration to me with Operation, Paperclip and post World War II happenings. It had just enough mystery, romance, and historical interest. Read the author’s note at the end, as that pulls everything together. Kudos!

Definitely ChickLit. A weak story.

Very predictable. All the characters except one were seemingly perfect and although it was war time, they all were wonderful. Highly implausible and no real depth.
