Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

a bit immature for my taste
Revisado: 09-20-17
Seemed geared for a much younger audience, except for the violence which I found very surprising at times. Relationship development, character development, even major plot points seemed unrealistic and forced. Main characters were always immature, obnoxious, and annoying - actually that pretty true about almost all the young characters, even if they were supposed to be characters with serious personalities. The central villain was paper thin at best, almost to the point of laughable. The female performance was great considering the material, but the male performance was really... not good. I am a martial artist, so maybe I'm biased, however the fight scenes were INCREDIBLY unrealistic and usually ended with over-realistic graphic results of said violence. (A knee to the face killed someone, really?? You'd be lucky if that knocked them out cold.) I felt this was key as both main characters are supposed to be really good fighters. I wanted to like this trilogy, but in the end it was a struggle to finish. I really had to work to get through the end.

This was on my wishlist for a few months before I caved and bought it. I listened to it in less than 3 days - so well written & performed. The story kept me wanting more, and the main character was so relatable. Can't wait to listen to the next one!

Enjoyable
Revisado: 10-21-16
This was a surprisingly enjoyable listen. The narrator has a soothing quality to his voice, which is very relaxing (not to say that the action scenes weren't intense - they were!)
The plot felt a little bit like a classic folk tale - I half expected it to be like an Aesop's Fable with a moral to learn at the end. That being said, there were some plot twists that were exciting and there was quite a bit of mystery that kept me interested to learn more. The characters were surprisingly realistic and empathetic.
All around a decent listen.

In a world where nothing supernatural exists, Tess Eckhart is positive she's going crazy. After her complete freak-out at a high school party, her family is too. So much that they pack their bags and move across the country, next to a nationally-renowned facility for the mentally ill. Tess is determined to fit in at her new school, despite the whispers and stares. But when it comes to Luka Williams, a reluctantly popular boy in her class, she's unused to a stare that intense.

Great Story
Revisado: 09-10-16
At first, I wasn't too sure about it - seemed like another cliche teen romance. But then it pulls you into this gripping tale reminiscent of the old mysteries I loved reading as a kid mixed in with a flavor of dystopia and sci-fi. Basically perfection. Can't wait for the next one.
