Historia
An ex-con is brutally murdered with an ax in Kaalbringen. Then the body of a wealthy real estate mogul is found, also the victim of a violent attack. There appears to be a serial killer on the loose, and Chief Inspector Van Veeteren is called in to help the local police. As details surrounding the grisly murders are collected, Van Veeteren finds little to go on. But then there's another murder, and shortly thereafter one of Van Veeteren's colleagues, a promising female detective, goes missing.

After a long sleuth at long last a another mystery series worth listening to
Revisado: 03-28-16
Plausible enough, yet a calm and wonderful page turner as one wondered who. I quite like those , as this, that are a mild history lesson, along with geography. Well paced. Believable characters. And the reader became the characters, easy on the ear and mind. This is an author whose work I will look forward to hearing and when I have read her last, for I will read them all at least twice, I will with a sigh, feel a sense of loss

Historia
Naples, 1931. A bitter wind stalks the city streets, and murder lies at its chilled heart. When Maestro Vezzi, one of the world's greatest tenors, is found brutally murdered in his dressing room at Naples' famous San Carlo theater, the enigmatic and aloof Commissario Ricciardi is called to investigate. Arrogant and bad-tempered, Vezzi was hated by many. But with the livelihoods of the opera at stake, who would have committed such a callous act?

Little right, a Lot Wrong
Revisado: 03-08-16
First mistake was buying three by the same author before listening to one. The second was since I had run out of everything by Donna Leon and starting to feel homesick for her Italy, the setting appealed. In comparison it felt like the author was using her template and filling in the blanks with a poorly crafted pen.
You're not going to fall into like with this character. Or any of the characters. The story was too contrived throughout and poorly done at that. Some dialogue very fast and choppy, sounding as if the reader did so simply to make another voice. Ever too much crystal balling.
If I'd purchased these as hard copies I would return the other two without taking out of the bag.

All the same. As if the author wrote from a template. Not at all believable. This author will be on my "nevermore". List. I'd give him Raven, except I like them too much.

Historia
One afternoon, Commissario Guido Brunetti gets a frantic call from the director of a prestigious Venetian library. Someone has stolen pages out of several rare books. After a round of questioning, the case seems clear: The culprit must be the man who requested the volumes, an American professor from a Kansas university. The only problem-- the man fled the library earlier that day, and after checking his credentials, the American professor doesn't exist.

Finely crafted, believable characters and situations, up to her usual excellence. More books, many more books please
Revisado: 03-04-16
Leon keeps on doing it, and keeps on doing it well. As usual, she starts with some small fact of life, and drop by drop builds a sandcastle that can withstand all waves, based on a current social issue or perhaps even a trial. Her characters are believable and stay so from one book to the next, becoming people you know and usually like. Her stories are solid in themselves and do not depend on gratuitous sex or violence. its not that there isn't a dead body or two or that married or unmarried people sleep together, but if so, it's part of the tale that will keep you reading to the end. Perhaps you will reread even more than once.

Kaminski does it again
Revisado: 02-17-16
The only flaw is mispronunciation of some of the Russian words, as usual, nicely crafted. Also as usual, he jumps with two ropes, managing to have two major story lines and does it wonderfully well

Historia
When Commissario Brunetti is summoned in the middle of the night to the hospital bed of a pediatrician, he is confronted with more questions than answers. Three men, a young carabiniere captain and two privates from out of town, burst into the doctor's apartment while the family was sleeping, attacked him, and took away his 18-month-old boy. What could have motivated an assault by the forces of the state that was so violent it has left the doctor mute?

Historia
The setting itself is elemental P. D. James: the bleak coast of East Anglia, where atop a sweep of low cliffs stands the small theological college of St. Anselm’s. On the shore not far away, smothered beneath a fall of sand, lies the body of one of the school’s young ordinands. He is the son of Sir Alred Treves, a hugely successful and flamboyant businessman who is accustomed to getting what he wants—and in this case what he wants is Commander Adam Dalgliesh to investigate his son’s death.

Complex, captivating, creative - P. D. James at her best
Revisado: 06-01-15
A continuum, all the characters remain true to selves, even with added aspects. Believability of facts from smallest detail, making it a savory stew rather than a bland broth. The last lines resonate, hanging like notes in the mind, fading slowly out of earshot. A most satisfying read
