It’s a fine set of info but…
Revisado: 04-14-22
I was appalled that somewhere in the middle of the book, I got detailed instructions- and a pause - to leave a review. It spoiled the whole experience and clarified to me that this is not a book as much as just another piece of influencer propaganda or attention seeking.
I had hoped a platform like audible could do better at filtering. I mean when I’m buying it, that says I value it. Demanding / begging reviews is crass and belongs in free media like YouTube.
Everyone else: save your money, esp if this breaks your faith in the author like it did for me.

Historia
From legendary science-fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson comes a vision of climate change unlike any ever imagined. Told entirely through fictional eye-witness accounts, The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, the story of how climate change will affect us all over the decades to come. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

Boring
Revisado: 07-03-21
This book is just boring. There are pockets of adventure, but in between are huge sections of weird quasi scientific ranting. It jumps around. I gave up about 5 hours in. I suspect it is better is you read it so you can see the breaks and skim some of the pieces when they get annoying. It just didn’t work for me as an audiobook.

Historia
In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead. The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past. But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance. An enemy that is already dead.

This has nothing to do with the others
Revisado: 05-12-21
No characters in common that I could spot.
Not even the same tone.
I guess it’s vaguely related- and it’s a fine story in its own right - just not what I was expecting.

Just didn’t work for me
Revisado: 04-17-21
The narrator was ... somehow just not suited to the story. And the stories were ... disturbing. It was a series a short stories- all with the same main character. Each one was a tale set on a planet or moon in our solar system. Each time it was a different set of aliens who lived there. And each time, he destroyed them. Even if they weren’t aggressive or anything. It just seemed overly dark and depressing. I’m sure it had political commentary of some sort, but I didn’t get it.

Second installment
Revisado: 04-11-21
Second book in the series and follows the first well. This series is more like television episodes than books in a series. There is the same running about and action as the first episode, and delivers to the same standard.

Historia
Simmie Johnson was born the son of a slave. He was also a genius. After earning a PhD in physics from Tuskegee Institute, he wrote a paper outlining a theory for time travel, including plans for a time machine - called a chronocar - which was published in a scientific journal in the early 1900s. Since the technology required to build the chronocar did not yet exist, the paper and its brilliant writer faded into obscurity.

Took me two tries
Revisado: 04-11-21
This is about time travel, and covers a couple of historical periods. I found though that it started out a bit slow. I listened for awhile and couldn’t get into it. There is a very heavy and dominant theme of racial violence and discrimination. (Which I expected... but it was still shocking. ). A second go, however, got me more into the characters and I got to the heart of the story— where it really picked up and became a “page turner”. The ending was a bit moralistic but suited the story very well.

Interesting idea but too long
Revisado: 04-11-21
The characters were interesting but it was way too long for its plot. Clearly a lot of world building for a future series. There is a bunch of running about that is poorly motivated (but funny) and no actually satisfying ending.

Interesting premise
Revisado: 04-11-21
I liked the premise.
I found it a bit... over the top.
There was a lot of discussion of the Muslim faith and only a cursory treatment of the impact on government and society... it was all a bit trite in that regard it’s I just a bit too upbeat and pro-Islamic sounding... no conflict just a transition of Britain to the tenets of Islam in a relatively smooth manner.
Overall, it’s interesting but not the epic or deep take I was expecting. It’s very much the Disney version of the possibilities.

The infected are subject to delirium, fever, a dramatic increase in violent behavior, and a one-hundred percent mortality rate. Death. But it doesn't end there. The victims return from death to walk the earth. When a massive military operation fails to contain the plague of the living dead it escalates into a global pandemic.

Interesting premise for a zombie apocalypse
Revisado: 04-11-21
There is more meat to the outbreak.
There is a more organized response.
There is more mobility and roaming around the world.
Plenty of action.
Plenty of places where you just think: wow that’s foolish! (So common in zombie and horror movies!)
Overall an interesting story, and clearly the start of a series. I don’t know that I’m invested enough in the characters to go for the next one, but this is solid zombie entertainment that I enjoyed!
