Historia
Bear it or perish yourself. Those are the words Helen Jean hears that fateful night in her cousin’s outhouse that change the trajectory of her life. Spanning decades, Perish tracks the choices Helen Jean—the matriarch of the Turner family—makes and the way those choices have rippled across generations, from her children to her grandchildren and beyond. This family’s “reunion” unearths long-kept secrets and forces each member to ask themselves important questions about who is deserving of forgiveness and who bears the cross of blame.

I just finished Perish on Audible, and I’m broken and healed all at once. What a powerful family saga, and how honestly written! Somehow this author was able to bring us to the depths of hell and pull us back to the surface again so we can breathe. I am so honored to have read this story and witnessed the journey of these women to redemption and love.

Historia
A city of antebellum architecture, picturesque parks, and cobblestone streets, Savannah moves at a graceful pace. But for Harper McClain, the timeless beauty and culture that distinguishes her home’s Southern heritage vanishes during the dark and dangerous nights. She wouldn’t have it any other way. Not even finding her mother brutally murdered in their home when she was 12 has made her love Savannah any less.

Engrossing and masterful
Revisado: 04-02-20
I read this book on vacation and pretty much spent the whole time with it instead of my LIVE travel companion because I couldn't stop listening. I'm heading right to Daugherty's newest book because this one is that good. Except for the BBC Poirot series, I'm not a huge mystery buff. Daugherty has opened my eyes. Please keep them coming.

Historia
Fate - is it written in the stars from the moment we are born, or is it a bendable thing that we can shape with our own hands? Jepp of Astraveld needs to know. He left his countryside home on the empty promise of a stranger, only to become a captive in the strange, luxurious prison that is Coudenberg Palace, the royal court of the Spanish infanta. Nobody warned Jepp that, as a court dwarf, daily injustices would become his seemingly unshakeable fate. If the humiliations were his alone, perhaps he could endure them, but it breaks Jepp’s heart to see his friend Lia suffer.

Lovely storytelling
Revisado: 07-26-18
I was captivated by Jepp’s journey and the details of 16th century Europe. This novel is as as satisfying for me as it would be for any 16-year-old—perhaps even more. The Audible narrator’s voice captures the magic of Marsh’s storytelling, and I fell in love with the characters whose surprising motivations were realistic and honest. Maybe I like most that Jepp’s story is a tale that promises no easy answers or successes in life, and shows that real love requires patience and trust and the courage to find your own path even as your hearts are traveling as one. Jepp feels like a classic already—and now one of my favorite stories.
