I enjoyed the twists and turns
Revisado: 04-08-25
This was the 2nd Fiona Davis book I've read, and liked the first one, The stolen queen, much better. Maybe you have to be a serious NYC art and high society lover to appreciate this book.

I almost couldn't put this down because the story kept unraveling and i wanted to know what happens next. The characters are multi dimensional and very interesting.

Eilis Lacey is Irish, married to Tony Fiorello, a plumber and one of four Italian American brothers, all of whom live in neighboring houses on a cul-de-sac in Lindenhurst, Long Island, with their wives and children and Tony’s parents, a huge extended family. It is the spring of 1976 and Eilis is now forty with two teenage children. Though her ties to Ireland remain stronger than those that hold her to her new land and home, she has not returned in decades.

Claustrophobic settings and emotionless characters
Revisado: 03-31-25
I did enjoy the actual storyline a lot and that kept me listening to the end.
On the minus side, it's curious there's no description of the appearance of characters, not really, although the clothes are often described in detail! It makes it difficult to follow the author's intentions. I also find the the characters curiously void of showing emotions even in the most intense situations. Instead, everyone calmly deliberates possible answers and outcomes, which I find totally unbelievable for most humans, especially with love, passion and betrayal.

Possibly life changing spiritual information presented step by step
Revisado: 02-16-25
I like that the book offers information and help for often unexplainable emotions and actions, as result of energy blocks and not using your spiritual gifts. There are concrete techniques and steps to follow, and the book is inspiring and encouraging.
It would have been helpful to have clear pauses between chapters and sub-titles.
As a result of following and trying many spiritual teachings and methods, I cannot help but feeling a little skeptical, though and that’s why I'm giving 4 and not 5 stars.
Last, a Big Thank You to Oliver!

Revisado: 01-19-25
There were enough twists and turns to hold my attention, but the simplistic language and sometimes totally unbelievable twists made me cringe. I also didn't really like the female narrator's voice and dramatization, but I guess it's a matter of individual taste.

I should have known better. It's a genre book, geared to an audience who expect a non-nuanced character list, an emotionless protagonist, and a predictable ridiculous storyline.

I liked the narrative that’s moving and in the end, triumphant. However, the way it's told seemed more like a list or report, not nuanced, and seemed to paint everyone of "the other" as being the same. Every population group has good and bad, in my opinion.

...and not the genuine storyteller whose books I usually can't put down. A big disappointment, unfortunately. I had to make myself plough through to the end, skipping over several places - and the end just invites you to the next book and solves nothing.
